The G20 Summit 2023 under India’s presidency is being hailed by leaders worldwide. UNGA President Dennis Francis hailed India for the inclusion of the African Union into G20 during its presidency stating it as a historic milestone and sending a strong symbol of solidarity and cooperation across the Global South.

India’s ‘diplomatic triumph’ was witnessed by the world during the G20 Summit 2023 held in New Delhi. The voices of the countries of the South were amplified across the globe under India’s G20 presidency. Now, UN Secretary-General lauded India’s efforts to become a voice of the Global South and bring nations on one platform.Amid geopolitical differences, G20 nations reached a 100 per cent consensus and adopted the New Delhi Declaration. In a landmark decision during G20 Summit 2023, the African Union became a permanent member of the group. Throughout its presidency, India has been making a strong pitch for the countries which are not a part of the G20 grouping. Nine nations, which are not a part of the group, were invited for the G20 Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi. Bangladesh, Egypt, Mauritius, Netherlands, Nigeria, Oman, Singapore, Spain and UAE were invited to the G20 New Delhi Summit.

External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar on September 13 recalled successful conclusion of 18th G20 Summit 2023 during his address at exhibition of manuscripts organised by SAMHiTA (South Asian Manuscript Histories and Textual Archive) at the India International Centre. He said that “We have certainly had an era of economic rebalancing which is actually how the G20 itself came about. We are seeing what I would call a return of history. A return of history in terms of a civilization state, India, expanding its influence, increasing its weight in the global order, building many more relationships and taking on more responsibilities...We have certainly had an era of economic rebalancing which is actually how the G20 itself came about. We are in the midst of political rebalancing...To me, one equally important facet is cultural rebalancing," said the diplomat.
