Seven individuals tragically perished as a powerful 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck Taiwan on April 3. Reports from Taiwan's state media, cited by Reuters, highlight this as the most intense earthquake witnessed in the past 25 years. Sana Hashmi, a Fellow at the Taiwan-Asia Exchange Foundation, shared her firsthand experience of the quake's devastation in an exclusive interview with ANI. An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.2 jolted Taiwan’s eastern coasts on April 03. The 7.2 magnitude earthquake knocked out power services in parts of Taiwan. It also sparked tsunami warnings for the southern part of Japan and the Philippines. Due to the quake, metro systems in Taipei, Taichung, Kaohsiung were suspended. Several buildings collapsed near the eastern county of Hualien, near the epicenter. As per Taiwan’s weather forecast agency, quake hit at a depth of 15.5 km off the eastern coast of Taiwan. Quoting Taiwan’s state media, Reuters reported that it was the strongest quake to hit the island in 25 years. Meanwhile, Japan issued an evacuation advisory for the coastal areas of the southern prefecture of Okinawa. Tsunami waves of up to 3 meters were expected to reach large areas of Japan's southwestern coast.

Iran launched drone and missile attacks on terrorist group headquarters in Pakistan’s Balochistan on Jan 16. Pakistan has strongly condemned Iran’s strikes on a terrorist group in Balochistan which claimed the lives of two children. The Foreign Ministry of Pakistan has termed the Iran airstrike in Pakistan as an “unprovoked violation” of its airspace by Iran. Also, the Ministry has warned of serious consequences and said that violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty “completely unacceptable”. Soon after Iran’s military action, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry raised the issue with the Iranian Counterpart on a diplomatic level. Islamabad highlighted that Tehran carried out the airstrike despite availability of several communication channels between the two. As per Al Arabiya News, Iran attacked the headquarters of Jaish al-Adl in Balochistan, Pakistan. Formed in 2012, this group has been designated as a “terrorist” organisation by Iran and operates in Sistan and Baluchestan province.

As Nepal grapples with the aftermath of the Nepal earthquake, India stepped up to help its neighbour by providing aid. In the hour of need, affirming India’s ‘Neighbourhood First Policy’, an IAF C-17 Globemaster carrying relief materials headed to Nepal on Nov 05. The flight carried essential relief materials and medical aid for the victims of the earthquake. The medical supplies including life-saving drugs, and surgical items to help Nepal recover from the devastation. India has been one of the first countries to provide humanitarian aid to the people of quake-hit Nepal. On November 4, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted that he was deeply saddened by the loss of lives after a massive earthquake of 6.4 magnitude jolted Nepal in the late hours of November 03. In the deadly quake, at least 157 people lost their lives and hundreds of others got injured. The injured, including women and children, were receiving treatment in hospitals in several parts of Nepal.

Nepal earthquake has ravaged Nepal with immense loss of lives and property sending shockwaves around the world. In the wake of the catastrophe, Nepalese PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal arrived at the affected areas and took stock of the situation. After assessing the situation, PM Dahal immediately called for a cabinet meeting of the Disaster Management Committee tomorrow. Nepal was jolted by a massive 6.6-magnitude earthquake on the late night of November 03 and continued to feel aftershocks, with a magnitude of 3.3. Meanwhile, Indian PM Narendra Modi had expressed his condolences as he said that he is ‘deeply saddened’ by the loss of lives. India also released an emergency contact number for Indians who require urgent assistance. Efforts are underway to provide medical assistance to those injured in the earthquake. The earthquake's impact has not been confined to Nepal alone, tremors were felt in several districts of North India, including Delhi-NCR, UP, and Bihar.
