An Air India flight from San Francisco to Mumbai, with a scheduled stop in Kolkata, underwent a mandatory post-landing inspection after a suspected technical glitch was detected. All passengers were safely deplaned, with several later accommodated at a hotel in Kolkata. No injuries were reported. 

Actor Naseeruddin Shah plays the role of Cabinet Secretary Vinay Kaul, IAS, based on Prabhat Kumar, in the web series ‘IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack’. Talking about his memories of the December 1999 incident, the veteran actor said that he feared the hijack would trigger another wave of Islamophobia.
