14 August,2025 03:44 PM ISTIn the wake of the India-Canada diplomatic crisis, Canadian National Security Expert Joe Adam George highlighted a troubling rise in fake asylum claims. In the first eight months of 2024 alone, Canada recorded 13,000 international students seeking asylum, with a significant number reportedly from Punjab, India. Many claim persecution for supporting the Khalistan movement, a narrative George suggests may not reflect the truth. He argues that this influx indicates an abuse of Canada's asylum and immigration system, prompting the Canadian government to recognize and respond to the issue, albeit belatedly. 18 October,2024 02:59 PM ISTThe Indian government has officially designated Hizb-Ut-Tahrir (HuT) and its associated groups as terrorist organisations under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The MHA stated that HuT aims to establish an Islamic state and Caliphate globally, including in India. Hizb-ut-Tahrir planned to overthrow democratically elected governments through jihad and terrorism. HuT is accused of radicalising youth to join terrorist organisations like ISIS and raising funds for terror activities. The government believes HuT poses a grave threat to India’s democratic setup and internal security. HM Amit Shah emphasised that the action against HuT aligns with PM Modi’s zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism. Notably, the US, China, Russia, and Pakistan have already banned and declared Hizb-ut-Tahrir a terrorist organization.
