Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Feb 07 hit out at the Congress for creating a north-south divide and ripped through the grand old party for working against the interests of the nation. For all of us, it is an inspirational unit...If one limb of the body doesn't function, the entire body is considered disabled. Similarly, if one corner of the country is devoid of development, the country cannot become developed...The language that is being spoken today, new narratives are being built out of political selfishness to break the country...What can be a bigger misfortune for the country?... Such a mindset is coming out of a national party. It is unfortunate!... Our tax, our money! What language is being used? This is dangerous to the future of the country..."

In a big relief to Rahul Gandhi in the modi-surname defamation case, SC has stayed the conviction of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. While granting relief to Rahul Gandhi, Supreme Court said that the ramifications of the trial court’s order are wide. However, SC said, Rahul Gandhi’s utterances are not in good taste and is expected to exercise caution while making public speeches. Earlier, Surat Court convicted the Congress leader in a defamation case for his ‘Modi surname’ remark. Surat District Court sentenced Rahul Gandhi to two years of imprisonment in a criminal defamation case.

In a major setback to Rahul Gandhi, the Gujarat high court on Friday rejected Rahul Gandhi's application seeking a stay on his conviction. A stay on conviction would have paved the way for Rahul Gandhi’s reinstatement as Lok Sabha MP. Rahul Gandhi was disqualified as a Member of Parliament from Lok Sabha, after he was convicted and sentenced to two years imprisonment in March this year in the Modi-surname Defamation Case. The case relates to the remarks about the Modi surname during a rally in 2019 while campaigning for the Lok Sabha polls in Karnataka.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla decided to expunge Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s remarks linking Prime Minister Narendra Modi to industrialist Gautam Adani during his speech in the House. It drew sharp criticism from the Opposition party. In all, 18 remarks Gandhi made during his 53-minute speech were removed from the records. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday attacked the BJP, alleging that the saffron party did not want the children of farmers and labourers to learn English and progress with the world. Speaking at a Bharat Jodo Yatra rally in Rajasthan’s Alwar, Rahul Gandhi said: “BJP leaders don't want English to be taught in schools.But children of all their leaders go to English-medium schools. Actually, they don't want children of poor farmers and labourers to learn English, dream big and get out of the fields.” Furthermore, he emphasised the importance of the English language across the Globe. “Wherever BJP leaders go, they talk against English. English should not be taught in schools. Sometimes you ask them in which school their son studies? All their children of CMs, MPs, MLAs go to English medium schools. They do not want the child of the poor of the country to learn English. I do not say that Hindi or other languages should not be learned, but if you want to talk to other countries of the world, then Hindi will not work there, only English will work,” he said.
