The Indian Navy commissioned Samarthak, its first multi-purpose vessel built by a private shipyard, at Karwar in Karnataka. Constructed by L&T, the vessel has over 75% indigenous content and will support weapons trials, maritime surveillance, emergency response and humanitarian missions.

Built by Larsen & Toubro Ltd under the Government of India's Make in India initiative, Samarthak is the first of four multi-purpose vessels being inducted into the Indian Navy. The commissioning marks another milestone in India's efforts to achieve self-reliance in defence manufacturing
