Pappu’s Yadav merged his Jan Adhikar Party (JAP) with Congress on March 20 ahead of Lok Sabha elections 2024. The Jan Adhikar Party president lauded Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi while addressing a press conference in Delhi. He further slammed Bharatiya Janata Party and terming it as a party of a ‘dictator’. He went on to say that alongside Congress he’ll work hard for the betterment of Bihar.

The tensions in violence-hit Manipur heightened again after teenagers were allegedly “kidnapped and killed” by armed miscreants. Acting swiftly on it, Home Minister Amit Shah appointed CBI Special Director, and other officials in Manipur to investigate the matter. The CBI team led by Special Director Ajay Bhatnagar reached Manipur on September 27 to investigate the murder of two students. Meanwhile, Manipur CM Biren Singh informed that the CBI has arrested four accused from Churachandpur in this case.

The case of Manipur viral video that showcased two women being paraded naked will now be handed over to the CBI for investigation, according to the sources. The Ministry of Home Affairs has decided to refer this case to Central Bureau of Investigation along with filling the affidavit in Supreme Court requesting the trial of viral video case to take place outside Manipur. Notably, this comes following the seventh arrest in the petrifying case that jolted the entire nation. Meanwhile, as per top govt sources, State Police has nabbed the person who shot the viral video and seized the mobile phone. As per sources, Centre also held several rounds of talks with members of the Kuki and Meitei communities. The government sources also told that law and order situation is improving in the ethnic-clash-hit state. Manipur violence has been simmering since early May as a result of ethnic violence after Kukis protested Meitei community's demand for ST status.

Asia’s biggest mental asylum, the Regional Mental Hospital of Thane, has always been in the news for the wrong reasons. Recently, a patient was beaten to death by the staff, following which a police complaint was filed by his kin. Mid-day, while trying to uncover details about the case, stumbled upon far more sinister goings-on at the institution. Over a long investigation, the reporters found that the asylum has been admitting perfectly sane people by certifying them as unstable for as paltry a bribe as Rs 8,200. One of the Mid-day reporters, Saimullah Khan approached the hospital staff with a request to admit his ‘cousin’ Faizan, who is another reporter from Mid-day. When the reporters followed the legitimate admission procedure, the staff refused to entertain them. However, after talking to a few staffers, the in-charge of a ward agreed to clear all hurdles in return for Rs. 8,200. Without making basic inquiries or demanding the patient’s medical history or documents, Faizan was admitted to the hospital after paying the bribe.
