For the first time in the history of Independent India, defence exports touched a record Rs 21,083 crore in the financial year 2023-24. India’s defence exports saw a record growth of 32.5 pc over the last fiscal year when the figure was Rs 15,920 crore. The recent figures have indicated that the defence exports have grown by 31 times in the last 10 years. Meanwhile, PM Narendra Modi called India’s defence sector growth a “monumental achievement”. The Prime Minister lauded the team’s hard work those who propelled India onto the global stage in defence. Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh hailed PM Modi’s visionary leadership and congratulated all stakeholders. The defence industry, including private sector, has made tremendous efforts in achieving the highest-ever defence exports. The private sector and the DPSUs have contributed about 60 per cent and 40 per cent, respectively.

On March 17, a mob attacked a shopkeeper over allegedly playing Hanuman Chalisa during ‘azaan’. A Hindu organisation held a protest in Bengaluru on March 19 over the Hanuman Chalisa row. Meanwhile, a clash erupted between Hindu organisation and Police during the protest. BJP Yuva Morcha National President Tejasvi Surya also joined the protest on March 19. Later, BJP MP Surya urged protestors to quit the demonstration after a clash with Bengaluru Police after he was detained. For the unversed,a Bengaluru shopkeeper was allegedly beaten for playing loud music at the time of Azaan (Islamic call to prayer). The shopkeeper claims he was playing Hanuman Chalisa at this shop in central Bengaluru when the assault took place.

A video of a Bengaluru shopkeeper being thrashed by Muslim mob, is making rounds on social media. The shopkeeper was allegedly thrashed for playing Hanuman Chalisa at his store. Political slugfest broke out soon after the videos reached the Opposition in the state. Taking to ‘X’, LoP R Ashoka shared the video and questioned the state government over the incident. Meanwhile, BJP leader PC Mohan alleged that the attack on man is the grim reality of Congress’ ‘Mohabbat Ki Dukaan’. BJP Yuva Morcha National President Tejasvi Surya alleged that the incident was result of Conress’ appeasement politics. Surya after meeting the victim on March 18 said that he has demanded an unbiased investigation from Bengaluru City Commissioner. Agitated by the incident, people in large numbers raised ‘Jai Shree Ram’ in the area.

BJP has faced a major setback in Haryana. BJP leader and Lok Sabha MP from Hisar, Brijendra Singh joined Congress on March 10 ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections 2024. Brijendra joined the party in the presence of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. Brijendra took to X and wrote that he resigned because of compelling political reasons. Brijendra Singh also said that there is a possibility of other BJP members joining Congress in Haryana. "I have resigned from the primary membership of BJP, due to compelling political reasons. I extend gratitude to the party, National President Sh. JP Nadda, Prime Minister Sh. The Supreme Court praised the growing Indian economy as robust and recognised in the world. The Supreme Court’s observation came while hearing the suit filed by Kerala Government against Centre. The Kerala Govt accused the Centre of not allowing it to borrow more money to meet its needs. Justices Surya Kant, KV Vishwanathan were hearing Kerala Govt’s plea raising the grave financial crisis. The Supreme Court remarked that India's economy is robust and is recognised in the entire world. Notably, India is currently the fifth largest economy of the world and visions to become the third largest soon. The launch of ISRO's meteorological satellite INSAT-3DS, aiming to enhance meteorological observations and help in better weather forecasting and disaster warning, is scheduled for February 17.Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), in a post on X on Thursday said that the satellite will be launched onboard a Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle F14 (GSLV F14)."The launch of the GSLV-F14/INSAT-3DS mission is set for Saturday, February 17, at 5:30pm from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) SHAR at Sriharikota," ISRO said.In August ISRO had launched successfully launched Chandrayaan-3, for this achievement ISRO was feted with the prestigious Leif Erikson Lunar Prize by the Husavik Museum. In last month January, the Indian Space Research Organisation had injected the Aditya-L1 Solar Mission into its designated orbit.

A major diplomatic win for India; eight of the ex-Indian Navy personnel were released from Qatar on Feb 12. Former Navy men were accused of allegedly spying on a submarine programme and were sentenced to Qatar death penalty. Following intervention by India’s MEA, the capital punishment was later commuted to an extended prison term. Seven of the total eight former Indian Navy personnel returned home from Qatar on February 12. Notably, PM Modi met with Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani on the sidelines of COP 28 Summit in Dubai. COP 28 Summit was held from 30 Nov till 12 Dec 2023, after the Qatar authorities had announced their verdict in the case. The release of the Navy personnel accused of espionage marks a big diplomatic win for India. It also shows the strengthening of bilateral relations between India and Qatar.
