Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Nov 25 flew a sortie on Tejas Aircraft in Bengaluru. PM Modi took to X (formerly Twitter) and shared his experience. PM termed it an “incredibly enriching” experience and wrote that it left a renewed “sense of pride” with him. The first version of the Light Combat Aircraft was inducted into the Indian Air Force in 2016. Currently, two squadrons of IAF, 45 Squadron and 18 Squadron, are fully operational with LCA Tejas. Under BJP-led NDA Govt, an order worth Rs 36,468 Cr for the delivery of 83 LCA Mk 1A aircraft has been placed with HAL. The delivery of these aircraft is scheduled to begin by February 2024. Also, over Rs 9000 Cr have been sanctioned for the development of LCA Mk 2, an updated and more lethal version of LCA Tejas. Transfer of Technology for manufacturing of the GE engine in India was negotiated with GE during PM’s visit to the US in June 2023

The Indian Air Force scrambled its Rafale fighter aircraft to search UFO in Imphal airport. The development came after a suspected ‘UFO’ was seen over Imphal airport around 2:30 pm on Nov 19. Earlier, a drone that was very small in appearance was spotted by security personnel at Imphal Airport on Sunday at 3 pm, according to sources. An alert was issued to other agencies at the airport and operations were postponed, sources added. Following the visual input, the Indian Air Force activated its Air Defence response. "IAF activated its Air Defence response mechanism based on visual inputs from Imphal Airport. The small object was not seen thereafter," IAF’s Eastern Air Command tweeted in regards to the UFO in Imphal that was sighted.

As Israel intensifies ‘Operation Iron Swords’ against Hamas, two commanders of the terrorist group were killed by fierce strikes of Israeli Air Force jets within a day. “Based on precise IDF and ISA intelligence, IAF aircraft killed Ali Qadi, a company commander of the Hamas "Nukhba" commando force, who led the terror attack in Israeli communities near the Gaza Strip last weekend,” informed Israeli Air Force. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited handed over the first LCA Tejas twin-seater trainer version aircraft to IAF on Oct 04. MoS for Defence Ajay Bhatt, Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari were present at the LCA Tejas division plant. This historic event mark the achievement of a key milestone of producing LCA Twin Seater. It is designed with a strategic intent of graduating budding pilots from the Twin Seater variants to fighter Pilots. HAL has an order of 18 twin seater from IAF and is planning to deliver eight twin seater in FY 2023-24. Further, 10 Light Combat Aircraft twin seaters would be delivered progressively by 2026-27. LCA-Tejas is the largest R-D program ever undertaken in India that made its maiden flight in 2001. It is going to be the backbone of the IAF fleet in years to come and is slated to be produced in high numbers. HAL has already received an order for 123 aircraft out of which 32 fighters have been supplied to IAF. This adds India to the list of elite countries that have created such capabilities in their Defence Forces. LCA Tejas is the best platform for India to be a flag bearer to achieve export targets set by the government.

In a major step to boost the defence infrastructure in high altitude areas, BRO set to construct the world’s highest fighter airfield in the Nyoma region of Eastern Ladakh. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh laid the foundation stone of Nyoma Airfield virtually on Sept 12. The world’s highest airfields will boost air infrastructure and would prove to be a ‘game-changer’ for the Armed Forces. Centre is proactively working towards developing infrastructure along the 3,488 Km stretch of the LAC. Earlier, BRO chief Lt Gen Rajeev Chaudhry said that India will beat China in the next two to three years. Comparing the ruling dispensation with the previous governments regarding infrastructure development along borders, BRO chief stated, “Present govt has changed this thinking, policy and is supporting us with a budget” Notably, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also inaugurated 90 infrastructure projects carried out by BRO in Samba district of J&K.
