President Donald Trump’s “Sleepy Joe” jab at former President Joe Biden appeared to take an awkward turn during a September 28 Oval Office event, after cameras captured Trump with his eyes closed and appearing to doze off while officials discussed a planned $15 billion steel plant in Iowa. Trump had invoked his familiar “Sleepy Joe” nickname for Biden while highlighting his administration’s steel and manufacturing agenda. Moments later, footage showed the president sitting behind the Resolute Desk, appearing to struggle to keep his eyes open as Energy Secretary Chris Wright and other officials spoke about the Iowa project. The clip quickly spread across social media, triggering a wave of memes, jokes and criticism, while some users defended Trump and argued that the footage showed nothing more than a brief moment of fatigue.
