Kyiv has come under a major Russian drone barrage, with daylight attacks hitting parts of Ukraine’s capital and causing explosions, fires and thick black smoke over the city. Ukrainian officials said Russian drones struck critical and civilian infrastructure, including railway facilities, fuel stations, warehouses and other buildings. At least two people were reported killed and more than 20 injured in the Kyiv attack. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia used a large number of drones, including faster jet-powered drones that are harder to intercept. 

A fresh wave of Russian drone strikes near Ukraine’s border with Poland has triggered a major security alert, with reports of damage to a gas station, trucks catching fire and a Kyiv-Warsaw passenger train being hit. The strikes took place near the Yahodyn-Dorohusk border checkpoint. The locomotive of a passenger train was reportedly attacked around two kilometres from the Polish border, while another reported strike site was around 800 metres from Poland. Preemptive warnings reportedly allowed passengers to take shelter and prevented casualties on the train. Border operations were temporarily disrupted before later resuming.
