Rooftops of 120 ‘Shikara’ boats on Dal Lake decorated in Tricolour

On the occasion of 75th Republic Day, the Srinagar District Administration on January 26 decorated the rooftops of 120 ‘Shikara’ boats on Dal Lake, in Tricolour. The ‘Shikara’ boats together showcased three colours of the National Flag, i.e. Saffron, white and green with an Ashoka Chakra in the middle.

14 killed after boat capsizes in Vadodara's Lake, govt forms high-level enquiry

A boat carrying children capsized in Vadodara's Harni Motnath Lake on January 18. 12 school children and two teachers were killed due to a boat capsizing incident. School children were on a picnic in Vadodara's Harni Motnath Lake when the mishap took place. The NDRF team is carrying out the rescue operations and rescued 20 people so far. Prime Minister Modi condoled the loss of lives due to a boat capsizing in Vadodara. He also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased. Meanwhile, Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel reached the incident site and inspected the rescue operations. The CM has ordered a strong inquiry and relevant sections of IPC have been invoked against accused. FIR has been registered and 9 teams have been formed to arrest the accused. CM Bhupendra Patel also visited the postmortem centre located at SSG Hospital in Vadodara. He also met the families of the children who lost their lives in the boat capsize incident. State Govt has announced Rs 4 Lakhs each for the next of kin of deceased, Rs 50,000 for injured.

Tamil Nadu Rains: Drone Visuals show lakes overflow as rain unleashes fury

The rain has unleashed its fury in the southern state of Tamil Nadu. The IMD has issued a 'Red' alert for Tenkasi, Thoothukudi, Tiruvaneli and Kanyakumari districts. 40 lakes in the Kovilpatti area of Thoothukudi district have reached full capacity. According to IMD, heavy rain was expected to occur in one or two places over Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, and Thoothukudi. It has been raining continuously since the morning of December 17 in Kovilpatti and areas of Thoothukudi. On December 19, thunderstorms and lightning are likely to occur at one or two places in Tamil Nadu. The Tamil Nadu government has taken precautionary measures to ensure people's safety following the Tamil Nadu rains.

Gandhi, during his maiden visit to Ladakh on Friday, held an interactive session with over 500 youth in Leh. The Congress leader arrived in Leh on Thursday on a two-day visit to the region. Jammu and Kashmir government started adventure activities ahead of the G-20 presidency summit. It aims to boost the overall adventure tourism in Kashmir. G20 tourism working group meeting will be held in Kashmir between May 22 and 24. J&K Tourism Secretary Syed Abid Rasheed Shah and other officers of Tourism Dept inaugurated the adventure activities. Activities like hot air balloons, cycling, trekking expeditions, and other activities were organised on the banks of Dal Lake. School children, and tourists participated in adventure activities organised on the banks of Dal Lake. Dal Lake attracts lakhs of tourists who enjoy different water adventures including surfing, boat riding, and Shikaras.
