The Indian Air Force's An-32 aircraft, which went missing over the Bay of Bengal in 2016, has been discovered seven years later. On July 22, 2016, the airplane had inexplicably disappeared over the Bay of Bengal, carrying 29 people. The airplane search and rescue operation grew to be one of India's largest. On August 1, 2016, it was discovered that the aircraft lacked an underwater location beacon, and the rescue effort was called off on September 15, 2016. The National Institute of Ocean Technology employed an AUV to identify a missing aircraft on the seabed about 310 kilometers off the coast of Chennai. The search was carried out at a depth of 3400 m with various payloads. The search images were scrutinized and found to be conforming with an An-32 aircraft.

A Japanese airplane A350 on Jan 2 was engulfed in flames at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport. The passenger airplane caught fire after a possible collision with a Coast Guard aircraft. Video footage from cameras installed at Haneda Airport by Japan Airlines and NHK captured the horrifying moment when flames erupted from the aircraft shortly after it touched down. Moreover, an immense blaze can be witnessed outside from the windows of the passenger plane. Meanwhile, all 379 passengers and crew members were safely evacuated. The Coast Guard is investigating the matter, and Haneda has closed all runways following the incident of Japan Plane Collision.

The Ganeshotsav mandals in Mumbai celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi 2023 in a significant manner. This year, Mumbai residents welcomed the tallest Lord Ganesha idol of 45-foot. The 11th lane of Khetwadi (Khetwadi 11th Galli as it is locally called) has the tallest Lord Ganesha idol so far in Mumbai. The Khetwadi 11th Galli Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal was founded in 1962. Days after Canadian PM Justin Trudeau’s India visit for G20 Leaders’ Summit, the negotiations for a free trade agreement between India-Canada have been stalled. The sources cited “certain political developments” in Canada as the reason for the pause in the negotiations. As per sources, the talks will resume once issues are settled between both governments. However, earlier there were reports that both countries could reach an interim trade deal by the end of this year. But increasing anti-India activities by pro-Khalistan elements in Canada have cast a shadow on bilateral ties. Meanwhile, on the sidelines of the G20 Leaders’ Summit, PM Modi talked tough on the Khalistan issue with the Canadian PM. PM Modi raised “strong concerns” on continuous “anti-India activities” by extremist elements in Canada. PM Modi stated that it was essential for the two countries to cooperate in dealing with such threats. Notably, both countries have been negotiating a trade deal since 2010 when the Manmohan-led govt was in power. However, the rise of pro-Khalistan activities has possibly strained the relationship between both countries.

In a major step to boost the defence infrastructure in high altitude areas, BRO set to construct the world’s highest fighter airfield in the Nyoma region of Eastern Ladakh. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh laid the foundation stone of Nyoma Airfield virtually on Sept 12. The world’s highest airfields will boost air infrastructure and would prove to be a ‘game-changer’ for the Armed Forces. Centre is proactively working towards developing infrastructure along the 3,488 Km stretch of the LAC. Earlier, BRO chief Lt Gen Rajeev Chaudhry said that India will beat China in the next two to three years. Comparing the ruling dispensation with the previous governments regarding infrastructure development along borders, BRO chief stated, “Present govt has changed this thinking, policy and is supporting us with a budget” Notably, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also inaugurated 90 infrastructure projects carried out by BRO in Samba district of J&K.
