XPoSat Mission: ISRO Chief S Somanath congratulates team on successful launch

Indian Space Research Organisation Chief S Somanath, while addressing team members, congratulated his team members for the successful launch of PSLV-C58 XPoSat mission from Sriharikota on January 01. ISRO launched X-Ray Polarimeter Satellite from the first launch-pad, SDSC-SHAR, Sriharikota in Andhra today. The mission would carry primary payload XPoSat and ten other satellites to be deployed in low earth orbits. XPoSat mission is India’s first dedicated polarimetry mission to study various dynamics of bright astronomical X-ray sources in extreme conditions. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday hailed ISRO's successful launch of its maiden X-Ray Polarimeter Satellite.

Chandrayaan-3: Why ISRO chose to land on Moon's south pole? S Somnath explains

With the successful soft landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the Moon, India has become the first nation to achieve this feat. In a conversation with ANI, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chief S Somanath shed light on why the south pole of the Moon was chosen for the soft landing. “We have gone closer to the South Pole which is 70 degrees almost. The South Pole has a specific advantage with respect to being less illuminated by the Sun. There is a potential because of to have more scientific content. Scientists who are working on the moon showed a lot of interest in the South Pole because ultimately human beings want to go and create colonies and then travel beyond. So the best place is something we are looking for and the South Pole has the potential to be that,” he said.

Chandrayaan-3: SAC director at ISRO reveals ‘plan B’ for Vikram lunar lander

India’s ambitious lunar mission Chandrayaan-3 is set to land on the Moon on August 23, 2023, around 18:04 IST. Ahead of the much-awaited landing of India on the Moon’s south pole, SAC Director revealed ‘Plan-B’ for Chandrayaan-3. The landing of the module will take place on Aug 27 if the factors do not appear favourable on Aug 23, informed SAC Director Desai. In the most recent development, Chandrayaan-2’s orbiter established a two-way connection with Chandrayaan-3’s lander module today.

Luna-25 crashes into moon: What went wrong? Experts explain

Russia’s first moon mission in 47 years, Luna-25, ended in a crash on August 20. Roskosmos, the Russian space corporation, according to Reuters, said the spacecraft spun out of control and smashed into the moon. "The apparatus moved into an unpredictable orbit and ceased to exist as a result of a collision with the Moon," Reuters quoted Roskosmos. Explaining what went wrong, Indian space experts went into the details of the crash of Luna-25.

Luna-25: Russia’s Luna-25 spacecraft crashes into moon, declared mission failed

Russia’s first moon mission in 47 years failed after its Luna-25 spacecraft smashed into the moon on Aug 20. Roskosmos, Russia’s space corporation, said it had lost contact with the craft shortly after a problem occurred. This development came soon after the craft was shunted into pre-landing orbit on Aug 19. An incident occurred, while the spacecraft was trying to enter a pre-landing orbit according to Roscosmos. Interestingly, Russia had not attempted a moon mission since Luna-24 in 1976. Luna-25 was supposed to execute a soft landing on the south pole of the moon on Aug 21, as per Russian space officials. Meanwhile, India’s third lunar mission Chandrayaan-3 is on track. Chandrayaan-3 is set to land on the moon on August 23, 2023 (Wednesday). The spacecraft is now just three days away from its final destination, the moon’s south pole.

Chandrayaan-3 completes fifth and final lunar bound manoeuvre

India’s ambitious lunar mission Chandrayaan-3 is moving closer to the Moon. ISRO has informed that all the lunar bound manoeuvres of the spacecraft have been completed successfully. Today’s successful firing, needed for a short duration, has put Chandrayaan-3 into an orbit of 153 km x 163 km. Now, the separation of the Lander Module from the Propulsion Module is planned for August 17, 2023. If successful with the Chandrayaan-3 mission, India will likely become the first country to reach the less explored south pole of Moon. Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft aims to make a soft landing on Moon’s surface on August 23. The historic lift-off of Chandrayaan-3 was witnessed on July 14 from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota. Chandrayaan-3 is ISRO's follow-up attempt after Chandrayaan-2 faced challenges during its soft landing on the lunar surface in 2019.

Chandrayaan-3: ISRO notifies expected landing date on the Moon

India’s Moon lander and rover Chandrayaan 3 has been successfully inserted into the lunar orbit, by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on August 5. The next operation, reduction of the orbit, is scheduled for August 06 at around 11 pm. The insertion was carried out by retro-burning at Perilune for 1835 seconds. The manoeuvre has resulted in an orbit of 164 km x 18074 km, as intended. A series of such manoeuvres have been planned to gradually reduce Chandrayaan-3’s orbit ISRO also said that a series of complex braking maneuvers will be executed to facilitate soft landing on Moon on Aug 23, 2023. Former ISRO scientist Tapan Misra explained about Lunar Orbit Insertion and the next process. Notably, Chandrayaan-3, India’s third lunar exploration mission was launched on July 14 from Satish Dhawan Space Centre.

ISRO is all set for the Lunar Orbit Injection (LOI) of ‘Chandrayaan-3’ on August 05 around IST 7 pm. ISRO informed that the spacecraft has completed approximately two-third of the journey to the moon. Earlier on Aug 05, ISRO successfully performed Trans Lunar Injection (TLI) to slingshot Chandrayaan-3 towards the Moon. ISRO injected the spacecraft into the translunar orbit from ISTRAC on August 01 in Bengaluru. Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft is continuing its circuitous journey to the Moon with a series of burns to raise its orbit. ISRO informed that the Lunar-Orbit Insertion (LOI) of Chandrayaan-3 is planned for Aug 5, 2023. The world witnessed the historic lift-off of Chandrayaan-3 on July 14. ISRO launched India’s third lunar exploration mission from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota on July 14.
