Budget Session: Heated exchange between Nirmala Sitharaman and Adhir Chowdhury

A heated debate was witnessed in the Lower House of the Parliament during the Budget Session. During the question hour in the Lok Sabha, Congress leader Adhir Chowdhury asked Sitharaman the reason behind the "indiscriminate and arbitrary attitude" of the Centre towards Karnataka. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 05 dismissed Congess’ Adhir Chowdhury’s claims of ‘partiality’ with the non-BJP ruled states. Ms Sitharaman responding to the same explained that "devolution to states... happens as per Finance Commission recommendation", and that she had no "discretion" in allocation of tax revenues. This discussion was happening around the Interim Budget presented by the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 1st.

INDIA Alliance Coordination Committee meeting ended at NCP Leader Sharad Pawar’s residence in New Delhi on September 13. The 14-member panel discussed a variety of issues including the seat sharing and campaign strategy for the 2024 general elections. The alliance decided that it will soon kick start joint public meetings across India, beginning from Bhopal in the first week of October. Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal while addressing a conference condemned the BJP for vendetta politics against TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee as he was absent from the meeting due to the ED summon. Baramulla Drugs Crackdown: J&K Police launches major crackdown on Narco terror

In a massive crackdown by the Police against narco-terrorism in the Baramulla district of North Kashmir, a huge consignment has been busted by the police. The crackdown has happened at various locations in recent days from Uri along the Line of Control (LoC) to other parts of Baramulla district over the last few days. Pakistan-based handlers, as part of a conspiracy, are using smugglers to push narcotics into Jammu and Kashmir to get the younger generation addicted to drugs. Notably, 284 drug peddlers have been arrested and 34 notorious drug peddlers have been booked under Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, (PIT-NDPS Act). The dedicated teams deployed by the Baramulla Police consist of experienced officers and undercover agents who will discreetly gather intelligence on the drug mafia's operations, networks, and supply chains.

Drugs worth 15,000 crores seized by NCB off Kochi coast originating from Pak

In what is claimed to be India’s biggest drug haul in terms of monetary value, NCB seized drugs worth 15,000 crores off the Kochi coast. The seizure was part of ‘Operation Samudragupt’ targeting maritime drug trafficking. 134 sacks of suspected Methamphetamine were recovered from a ship. As per Deputy Director-General of Narcotics Control Bureau, Sanjay Kumar Singh, the source of the drugs is Pakistan. One person, suspected to be a Pakistan national, was arrested by the agencies and an investigation is on.

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai cast his vote in the Assembly election on Wednesday at Shiggaon in Haveri district. A huge accident involving seven to eight vehicles happened on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. According to the media reports, at least six persons have been injured in the accident. The reports stated that seven to eight different vehicles collided with each other on the Mumbai Pune Expressway leading to a pile-up. The accident took place near the Khopoli exit on the Mumbai-bound lane of the expressway. The exact cause behind the accident is not yet known.
