Jhelum Boat Accident: 6 dead bodies found, 3 people still missing

Rescue and search is operation underway in Ganderbal Nowgam area of ​​Srinagar. 3 people are still missing in the boat capsizing incident that occurred in the Jhelum River yesterday. According to DC Srinagar, Six bodies have been found so far. Officials said that the rescue operation continued till 11 pm last night but was halted due to darkness and heavy water flow in the river Jhelum. On 16th of April, in a tragic accident a boat carrying school children overturned in the Jhelum river in the Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir. The Srinagar Administration had launched a rescue operation in the area. A State Disaster Response Force team was also deployed. At least six persons including four children were found  dead. 4 bodies were recovered, while others were missing.  Continuous rains over last two days led to an increase in the water levels of several water bodies, including Jhelum.

The Indian Air Force's An-32 aircraft, which went missing over the Bay of Bengal in 2016, has been discovered seven years later. On July 22, 2016, the airplane had inexplicably disappeared over the Bay of Bengal, carrying 29 people. The airplane search and rescue operation grew to be one of India's largest. On August 1, 2016, it was discovered that the aircraft lacked an underwater location beacon, and the rescue effort was called off on September 15, 2016. The National Institute of Ocean Technology employed an AUV to identify a missing aircraft on the seabed about 310 kilometers off the coast of Chennai. The search was carried out at a depth of 3400 m with various payloads. The search images were scrutinized and found to be conforming with an An-32 aircraft.

14 dead, 100 missing in Sikkim flash floods; one army jawan rescued

At least 14 people were killed and over 100 are still missing in the Sikkim flash floods, according to officials. As per government sources, people are reportedly missing from Chungthang in Mangan district; Dikchu, Singtam in Gangtok district and Rangpo in Pakyong district. Over 20,000 people have been affected by the natural disaster. More than 3,000 tourists are feared to be stranded in different parts of the state. About 12-14 workers working in the Teesta Stage 3 dam in Chungthang are still stranded in the tunnels of the dam. Meanwhile, the Indian Army started helplines for families of missing people in Sikkim, including soldiers. One of the 23 missing Army personnel was rescued Wednesday, while the rest are still reportedly missing. West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose assessed the situation in flood-affected regions of Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, and Kalimpong after flash floods hit Sikkim.

Some vehicles are reportedly submerged under the slush. Search and rescue operations are still underway. A similar flood-like situation is being witnessed in Singtam. CM Prem Singh Tamang rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation in the affected areas.

Four Colombian children survive the Amazon jungle for weeks after plane crash

Four children have been found alive in Colombia's Amazon jungle after surviving a plane crash and spending 40 days fending for themselves in the jungle. The siblings were rescued by the military near the border between Colombia's Caqueta and Guaviare provinces. Rescuers, supported by search dogs, had previously found discarded fruit the children ate to survive, as well as improvised shelters made with jungle vegetation. Aeroplanes and helicopters from Colombia's army and air force participated in the rescue operations. The president of Columbia Gustavo Petro informed about the children’s rescue from Amazon Forest on June 10. A Cessna 206 plane, carrying 7 passengers crashed between the route of Araracuara, in Amazonas province, and San Jose del Guaviare on May 1. The plane experienced an engine failure following which it lost control and crashed into the Amazon forest. Three adults, including the pilot and the children's mother Magdalena Mucutuy, died in the mishap.

Nepal Army on Monday said they have not rescued anyone alive from the site of the plane crash that occurred on Jan 15 in the central resort city of Pokhara. "We haven't rescued anyone alive from the crash site," said Nepal Army Spokesperson Krishna Prasad Bhandari. A Yeti Airlines passenger plane crashed into a river gorge while landing at the newly-opened airport in Nepal's Pokhara. 72 people, including five Indians, on board, are feared to be dead. Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has called an emergency meeting of the Council of Ministers following Sunday's aircraft crash in Pokhara. Dahal has directed the country's home ministry, security personnel, and all government agencies to carry out immediate rescue and relief operations. PM Modi also expressed grief over the incident. "Pained by the tragic air crash in Nepal in which precious lives have been lost, including Indian nationals. In this hour of grief, my thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families," PM Modi tweeted. In a statement issued earlier on Sunday, Nepal's Civil Aviation Authority said the flight carrying 68 passengers included, five Indians, four Russians, and one Irish national.
