NCP fields Ajit Pawar's wife Sunetra Pawar against sister-in-law Supriya Sule

It will be a family contest on the Baramati seat in Maharashtra as the suspense ended on Saturday when Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party announced Sunetra Pawar, Ajit Pawar's wife, from the seat against Sharad Pawar-led Supriya Sule. With this the final showdown begins for the Pawar Vs Pawar battle in one of the Maharastra's most high profile seats Baramati. Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar) leader Sunetra Pawar’s candidature as Baramati candidate was announced on 30th March. Supriya Sule is the sitting MP from the seat since 2009. Her name was officially announced. On her candidature from Baramati, NCP candidate Sunetra Pawar said, “Today is a huge day for me. I want to thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union HM Amit Shah, Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar for showing faith one me.”

Baba Siddique: Veteran Leader Baba Siddique leaves Congress to join NCP

Veteran Leader from the Congress party Baba Siddique on Feb 10 joined NCP in presence of Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar .This came after he officially resigned from Congress putting an end to his 48 years of journey with the party. During his speech, he claimed that ‘perception politics’ was being done in Congress. Siddique, a former legislator from Bandra (west), is the second big face to quit the grand-old party before the 2024 Lok Sabha Polls. In January, Milind Deora exited from the party to join Shiv Sena led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. In a tweet, he announced, "I joined the Indian National Congress party as a young teenager and it has been a significant journey lasting 48 years. Today I resign from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress Party with immediate effect."

Maharashtra: Big setback to Sharad Pawar; NCP symbol goes to Ajit Pawar faction

In a big setback to the faction led by Sharad Pawar, the Election Commission on February 06 settled the dispute in the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in favour of the faction led by the petitioner Ajit Pawar. Celebration took over at Ajit Pawar Camp, as EC settled dispute in NCP. The poll panel has given the NCP name and symbol to the faction led by Ajit Pawar in a significant decision that has a bearing on the forthcoming polls. The decision was taken after more than 10 hearings spread over more than six months. Maharashtra Dy CM and petitioner Ajit Pawar welcomed the decision and expressed gratitude to EC for the decision. Meanwhile, NCP Sharad Pawar Faction leader Supriya Sule alleged an “Adrishya Shakti” behind the EC’s decision. Shiva Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi called the development “Sponsored, planned and executed by Central Govt”. Notably, test of majority in legislative wing found favour in the circumstance of the case, where both groups have been found to be working outside party constitution and organizational elections.

NCP-Sharad Pawar faction leader Rohit Pawar was summoned by the ED to appear before the agency today in connection with the Maharashtra State Cooperative (MSC) Bank money laundering probe. Rohit Pawar reached the ED office along with NCP working president Supriya Sule in Mumbai. Before entering the ED office, Rohit Pawar touched Supriya Sule’s feet and took her blessings. Supriya Sule said, "If we have not done anything wrong, there is no question of coming under the pressure of investigations...". She also said, “"Investigation must be transparent and fair. I have full faith in the ED and I am sure they will hear Rohit's side. We are going to completely cooperate with all the agencies because we have nothing to hide."

How can a man who lived in the jungle for 14 years remain a vegetarian?” Soon after the 'Lord Ram was non-vegetarian' remark went viral, there were protests against the leader.

Political row sparks between NCP-BJP after Sharad Pawar's statement on Israel

Hitting out at Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) supremo Sharad Pawar for his remark on the Israel-Palestine conflict, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday said that Pawar would send his daughter Supriya Sule to Gaza. Sarma's remarks came days after Sharad Pawar said that former Prime Ministers of India also “stood firmly with Palestine”. Terming Prime Minister Narendra Modi's support for Israel as "unfortunate", the NCP chief said that he neglected the real issue. Pawar said "The entire land is of Palestine and Israel encroached on their land. That place, land and houses, everything was of Palestine and later Israel took over it. Israel is an outsider and the land is originally of Palestine." Pawar's remarks were condemned by the BJP. Earlier today, Union Minister Piyush Goyal said it is "very disturbing" when a senior leader like Sharad Pawar makes such "preposterous statements" NCP Leader Supriya Sule also responded to Himanta Biswa Sarma's statement.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Maharashtra shared the dais with Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar recently at an event in Maharashtra's Pune. While taking a dig at NCP, Shah said that Ajit Pawar is at the “right place” now however it took a long time for him to achieve this position. “Ajit Dada (Pawar) has come for the first time after becoming the Deputy CM and I am sharing the stage with him, I want to tell him that after a long time, you are sitting at the right place. This was the right place but you took too long to come,” said Amit Shah.
