Last time I won the gold medal in the Asian Games. This time too I am participating. My final is on 4th (October)". In the last edition of Asian Games, India had won 20 medals in Athletics and this time India hopes to surpass that.

Neeraj Chopra becomes first Indian to win Gold at World Athletics Championships

Neeraj Chopra created history on Aug 28 as he bagged gold at the World Athletics Championships in Hungary's Budapest. With this, Chopra became the first Indian to win a gold medal at the World Athletics Championships. Celebrations started in the Olympic champion’s village in Haryana’s Panipat soon his historic achievement. Neeraj recorded his best javelin throw of 88.17 m in his 2nd attempt and managed to keep his lead intact till the very end. Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, the Commonwealth Games Champion, bagged a silver medal with a throw of 87.82 m.

Neeraj Chopra clinches Lausanne Diamond League 2023 title

 Star Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra clinched Lausanne Diamond League 2023 title. He clinched the title with the best throw of 87.66 m on June 30. Neeraj was making a return from an injury that had caused him to miss some competitions after his win at Diamond League 2023. Neeraj's ‘golden arm’ did its magic in the 5th attempt, achieving a throw of 87.66 m. He won the title as Julian slid to second with a best throw of 87.03 m. At third was Jakub Vadlech of the Czech Republic with an 86.13 m throw. Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur congratulated the Olympic champion for his “phenomenal effort”. Neeraj looked a little rusty in his first attempt, which was deemed to be invalid. Germany's Julian Webber took the lead with an 86.20 m throw. At the end of round one, Neeraj was not even among the top three athletes. In his second attempt, Neeraj achieved a throw of 83.52 m. However, Julian was still in the lead at the end of round two. Neeraj showed improvement in his ranking, climbing to number three. Neeraj's third attempt was 85.02 m. With this throw, he climbed to number two. At the end of round three, he was at number two. Julian still had the lead with an 86.20 m throw. The Indian's fourth attempt was deemed to be invalid. However, at the end of round four, Neeraj was still placed at number two. Neeraj's 'golden arm' did its magic in the fifth attempt, achieving a throw of 87.66 m. With this, he climbed to the number one position. In the sixth attempt and final one, Neeraj achieved a throw of 84.15 m.

Neeraj Chopra 'hurt' to see athletes on streets, comes in support

India’s ace wrestlers continue their protest against WFI president Brij Bhushan Singh over allegations of sexual harassment.  Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra on Friday came in support of the athletes, and said that he was 'hurt'. Top Indian grapplers including Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, Bajrang Punia, are involved in the protest against the WFI chief. Notably, India’s first individual Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bindra has also extended support to wrestlers. Following the protest, in January, the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports announced the formation of an 'oversight committee' to probe allegations. However, wrestlers have alleged that no concrete action has been taken yet against WFI president. On April 27, India’s Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Anurag Thakur said that “athlete is priority” for Centre.
