The US warship shot down three Houthi rebels’ drones headed in the ship’s direction in the Red Sea on Dec 04. As per US Central Command, Arleigh-Burke Class destroyer USS CARNEY responded to distress calls from the ships, provided assistance. The attacks marked an escalation in a series of maritime attacks in the Mideast linked to the Israel-Hamas war. For the first time in the conflict, multiple vessels found themselves in the crosshairs of a single Houthi’s assault. US Central Command condemned the attack and called it a “direct threat to international commerce, maritime security”. While, the US believed that these attacks launched by the Houthis in the Red Sea from Yemen, were fully “enabled by Iran”. As Israel-Hamas conflict entered Day 20, the Israeli troops on October 26 entered northern Gaza, according to IDF. Israel Defense Forces said in preparation for the next stages of combat, they launched operation in Northern Gaza. Israeli forces struck numerous Hamas’ terrorist cells, infrastructure and anti-tank missile launch posts. However, Israeli forces exited the Gaza Strip and returned to their territory after quick-fire. Israel has carried out intense bombardment in Gaza following the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7 that killed some 1,400 people. In its continued strike against Hamas, IDF has killed several top commanders and has destroyed various infrastructure.

As the southwest monsoon bids adieu to Mumbai and its adjoining areas, the mercury level is expected to climb, ushering in a summer-like feeling. Meteorologists and weather experts anticipate not only increased temperatures owing to the monsoon withdrawal but also a gradual decline in air quality during this transition. According to the forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city and suburbs will witness intense heat next week. According to IMD’s weekly weather forecast, the maximum temperature is likely to rise up to 32 degrees Celsius from October 9 to 13. After that, there will be some decrease in temperature. The maximum temperatures recorded at the Santacruz and Colaba observatories were 35.9 and 33 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, relative humidity at both weather stations was 71 per cent and 81 per cent, respectively.

The Indian Air Force recently inducted its latest Heron Mark 2 drones, which have strike capability and can carry out surveillance along the borders with both China and Pakistan in a single sortie itself. The four new Heron Mark-2 drones, which can be equipped with long-range missiles and other weapons systems, have been deployed at a forward air base in the northern sector. The drones with satellite communication capability have given a long desired capability to the Indian Air Force, as its drones can operate at very long distances for close to 36 hours at a stretch and can also laser illuminate enemy targets from very long ranges to help fighter aircraft destroy them using their long-range weapons.

Temperature rose substantially in the hill state of Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday due to a change in the weather condition, thereby giving respite to the people from severe cold wave. Tourists enjoy the rare bright sunny days in this hill station in December. In the picturesque Dharamsala town, the people could be seen in shirts on a sunny day. Climate is much better during the morning or evening hours from the past two days.
