Four accidents in a week, A series of recurring train Accidents

Several train accidents have occurred across India in just one week. These train accidents in India have resulted in tragic losses of lives and injuries. Recently, in UP’s Amroha, seven coaches of a goods train derailed on July 20, followed by another incident in Rajasthan’s Alwar where three wagons derailed on July 21. Earlier, a mishap in WB’s Darjeeling and another in UP’s Gonda involving the Dibrugarh Express led to fatalities and injuries. Additionally, a goods train derailed in Gujarat’s Valsad on July 19, causing disruptions in rail services. These incidents have raised concerns, with opposition questioning the government about the consecutive train mishaps nationwide.

Andhra Train Accident: Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw monitors the situation

In response to the Andhra train accident, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw took stock of the situation from the war room in Delhi. The Prime Minister has also announced the ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the PMNRF for the next of kin of each deceased.

Odisha Train Accident: CBI arrests three railway employees in Balasore mishap

Days after the tragic Balasore triple train accident, CBI arrested three railways officials on July 07. The central probe agency said that the accused have been arrested under sections 304, 201 of CrPC. The arrested railways employees have been identified as Arun Kumar Mahanta, senior section engineer; Amir Khan, section engineer; technician Pappu Kumar. CBI in its investigation found that the accused railway employees were also involved in the tampering of evidence. The arrested accused will be presented in the competent court and CBI will demand custody. The Railway Board had recommended a CBI probe into the accident following which on June 06. The CBI has already registered a First Information Report (FIR) in this matter. The horrific incident involving Coromandel Express, Shalimar Express and goods train claimed 291 lives and injured over 1000.

Coromandel Express resumes services days after the tragic accident

Days after the frightening train accident which claimed lives of at least 275 people and left over 900 people injured the ill-fated Coromandel Express is all set to resume its services on June 07 as per its scheduled time. Railway’s CPRO Aditya Kumar Chaudhary on June 06 updated about the train timings. In a tragic 3-way accident, 2 passenger trains and a good train collided with each other near Bahanaga Railway Station in Balasore on June 02. Around 10-12 coaches of Coromandel Express derailed near Bahanaga Railway station and ‘infringed’ into the opposite track. Another train coming on the same track, side crashed into the derailed coaches of Coromandel Express and also got derailed.

CBI officials reached the Balasore train accident site in Odisha on June 06. The officials have arrived to investigate the horrific accident and assess the ground reality. The deadly Balasore train accident has claimed lives of 275 people and over 1,000 injured. A 10-member CBI team has reached the accident site and began its investigation. Notably, the Railway board on Sunday recommended the CBI probe in Balasore train accident. An FIR has been registered at Balasore Railway Police Station against unknown persons under relevant sections of IPC.

Odisha train accident: NDRF official gives firsthand information on the accident

Venkatesan, a jawan with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), was the first to alert officials about the train accident involving three trains in Odisha’s Balasore. He was a passenger on the B7 coach of the ill-fated Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express, travelling to Chennai on leave. He played a crucial role in alerting emergency services about the train accident, which helped in reducing the extent of the accident. As soon as the accident occurred, he alerted his senior official and started rescuing fellow passengers as an experienced NDRF personnel. Venkatesan narrated the moment of the accident and how he helped his fellow passengers who were trapped in the coach.

In the conference, Jaya Varma Sinha, Member of Operation and Business Development, Railway Board recounted her conversations with the staff members of the Coromandel and Yeshwanthpur Express trains. The triple-train accident involved Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, the Coromandel Express and a goods train. Notably, 17 coaches of the two passenger trains were derailed in the horrifying accident.
