Paraguay

A major geopolitical announcement quickly turned into an unexpected viral moment after Donald Trump made an off-script remark that drew laughter and reactions inside a high-level diplomatic gathering. During the event, Trump made a remark referencing youth and appearance while acknowledging Santiago Peña, who rose to power under the Colorado Party. What was meant to be a defining moment for a new global peace initiative instead became dominated by a personal comment that shifted attention away from serious discussions on Gaza and regional stability. On June 2nd, Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the President of Paraguay, Santiago Peña, at Hyderabad House in New Delhi. This is President Peña’s first official visit to India. He was warmly received with a ceremonial welcome and a Guard of Honour at Palam Air Force Station. PM Modi and President Peña held talks with their delegations, focusing on boosting ties and exploring new areas of cooperation. India and Paraguay have shared diplomatic relations since 1961. Over the years, they’ve built strong partnerships in trade, health, agriculture, and technology. Paraguay is one of India’s key trading partners in Latin America, with several Indian companies already doing business there. President Peña also visited Rajghat to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, honoring his message of peace and non-violence. This visit signals a new chapter in India-Paraguay relations, with both countries looking to deepen cooperation for a brighter future.
