Union Minister Subhas Sarkar on Feb 20 said that Bengal people want presidential rule in the state amid the Sandeshkhali violence. Subhas Sarkar said, “People in West Bengal wants Presidential rule to be implemented in the state. NCW chief Rekha Sharma also suggested the same. He (Suvendu Adhikari) should have gone that’s why he went. No one is being allowed to go there. There is no democracy in the state.”

The US has advised its citizens to be vigilant ahead of Pakistan general elections 2024 scheduled for Feb 08. In the advisory, the State Department has highlighted potential disruptions and safety concerns during political activities of Pakistan Elections 2024. It also mentioned that in some instances, political activities in Pakistan have been targeted for violence.

Vladimir Putin's current presidential term expires on May 7 of next year and the next presidential election is slated for March 17, 2024. Putin served as the Russian President from 2000 to 2008 and has been holding the post since 2012 in two successive terms. Putin also served as the Russian Prime Minister from 2008 to 2012. A constitutional amendment in 2021 allows Putin to run for two more six-year terms and possibly stay in power till 2036, which will make him the longest-serving Russian leader surpassing Joseph Stalin.
