PM Modi pays his last respects to SAD patron Parkash Singh Badal

The mortal remains of former Punjab Chief Minister and chief of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Parkash Singh Badal have reached the party office in Chandigarh. Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached SAD party office around 12.30pm to pay final tributes to the leader. People started queuing up at the SAD office here since early on Wednesday to pay their last respects to Badal. The Punjab government has also declared a holiday on Thursday in honour of the five-time Punjab chief minister, who died on Tuesday, aged 95.

Shiromani Akali Dal patron Parkash Singh Badal passes away at 95

Former Punjab CM and SAD patron Parkash Singh Badal passed away at the age of 95 on April 25 in Mohali. Demise of the senior leader was confirmed by his son and party President Sukhbir Singh Badal’s PA. The former Punjab CM was reportedly admitted to ICU on April 21 post breathing difficulty complaints. Parkash Singh Badal, who also served as the youngest Punjab CM, served the state multiple times. Taking to Twitter handles, several leaders including PM Modi expressed their grief over the sad demise. Haryana CM Manoharlal Khattar also mourned the death of the leader.

Punjab Police on April 23 arrested Khalistan sympathiser Amritpal Singh from Rode village in Moga district of Punjab. Giving details about his arrest, IGP Punjab Sukhchain Singh Gill said that Amritpal was surrounded from all sides.He said, “Amritpal Singh has been arrested by Punjab Police at around 6:45 am today morning. Special operation was launched, joint operation was conducted by Amritsar Police and Intelligence Wing of Punjab Police.”Further, he said, “He was located in village Rode based on operational inputs by Punjab Police and he was surrounded from all sides, the village was surrounded by Punjab Police. Since he was inside a Gurudwara Sahib, so to maintain sanctity of Gurudwara Sahib is Supreme for everyone. To maintain sanctity, the police did not enter the Gurudwara Sahib. He knew that he had no way to escape now, he was surrounded by Punjab Police from all sides.

Amritpal Singh, the fugitive 'Waris Punjab De' chief, has been arrested from Moga's Rhode village in Punjab on early Sunday morning. The pro-Khalistani leader is being shifted to Assam's Dibrugarh jail where other members of his outfit are already lodged. Amritpal Singh has been arrested under the National Security Act. The arrest was done by combined efforts of the Punjab Police and national intelligence.

Radical self-styled preacher Amritpal Singh, who is still on the run, purportedly released his first video since the escape. In the viral unverified video, the fugitive Sikh preacher confidently said that “he is fine, nothing can harm him”. The pro-Khalistani leader also called for Sarbat Khalsa (community gathering) on the occasion of Baisakhi. A search operation to nab self-style preacher and Khalistani sympathizer Amritpal Singh began on March 18. Since then, hundreds of Amritpal’s supporters were arrested by state police as a massive operation was initiated against radicals. The action came almost three weeks after Amritpal and his supporters clashed with cops on Feb 23 in Ajnala.

Radical Sikh preacher Amritpal Singh, who has been evading arrest for more than 10 days, has returned to Punjab and plans to surrender, police sources have claimed. Amritpal Singh, who supports a call for a separate homeland for Sikhs and is wanted for an armed raid on a police station last month, was said to be travelling to Amritsar through the villages of Hoshiarpur when the Punjab Police was tipped off about his presence in the area, sources said. On Tuesday night, the police launched a massive door-to-door search operation in Hoshiarpur and neighbouring villages to catch him.
