Jagannath Rath Yatra 2023: Railways start special trains to and from Puri

Indian Railways will operate 857 special trains towards Puri and back during the Jagannath Rath Yatra this year for approximately 20 lakh pilgrims, who are visiting Puri, said Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. He interacted with the pilgrims during his visit to the Railway Station.He further said that all arrangements have been made at the Puri station for the Pilgrims coming here for the Rath yatra.

Devotees in large numbers thronged Jagannath Temple in Odisha’s Puri ahead of the ‘Rath Yatra’. The chariots of the sibling deities were pulled from ‘Rathakhala’ and taken to ‘Singhadwar’ of the temple by devotees. Heavy security force also assisted in the overwhelming event that created a mesmerizing view. Apart from Odisha, the world-famous Rath Yatra Festival is also celebrated in Gujarat. The 'Ratha Yatra' Festival celebrated in Ahmedabad is considered to be the second biggest Rath Yatra in the country after the Puri Jagannath Rath Yatra. Union Home Minister Amit Shah participated in Mangla Aarti at Jagannath Temple in Ahmedabad on June 20. President Droupadi Murmu offered prayers at Jagannath Temple in Hauz Khas, Delhi.

Chariot preparations begin in full swing for Jagannath Rath Yatra in Puri

Cyclone Biparjoy made landfall on the Gujarat coast on June 15. High-velocity winds struck the region causing significant destruction. Kachchh’s Mandvi of Gujarat witnessed strong winds as an impact of the cyclone. Electric poles were damaged and trees were uprooted in aftermath of the storm. Along with the destruction, heavy rainfall caused waterlogging in several areas of Mandvi. Earlier, heavy rains and gusty winds at a speed of over 115-120 kmph wreaked havoc in Gujarat’s Morbi. In addition to this, 23 animals were killed in Gujarat. Several relief and rescue teams were on alert as thousands of people were evacuated to safe locations. The eye of the storm is currently near the Pakistan-Kutch border.
