Indian Railways will operate 857 special trains towards Puri and back during the Jagannath Rath Yatra this year for approximately 20 lakh pilgrims, who are visiting Puri, said Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. He interacted with the pilgrims during his visit to the Railway Station.He further said that all arrangements have been made at the Puri station for the Pilgrims coming here for the Rath yatra.

Devotees in large numbers thronged Jagannath Temple in Odisha’s Puri ahead of the ‘Rath Yatra’. The chariots of the sibling deities were pulled from ‘Rathakhala’ and taken to ‘Singhadwar’ of the temple by devotees. Cyclone Biparjoy made landfall on the Gujarat coast on June 15. High-velocity winds struck the region causing significant destruction. Kachchh’s Mandvi of Gujarat witnessed strong winds as an impact of the cyclone. Electric poles were damaged and trees were uprooted in aftermath of the storm. Along with the destruction, heavy rainfall caused waterlogging in several areas of Mandvi. Earlier, heavy rains and gusty winds at a speed of over 115-120 kmph wreaked havoc in Gujarat’s Morbi. In addition to this, 23 animals were killed in Gujarat. Several relief and rescue teams were on alert as thousands of people were evacuated to safe locations. The eye of the storm is currently near the Pakistan-Kutch border.

A group of Muslim men in Ahmedabad offered a silver chariot to Jagannath Temple ahead of the grand Rath Yatra. The chariot was offered to a temple priest in Ahmedabad itself.
