As the threat of mischievous drone attacks and piracy bids loom large in Arabian Sea, Indian Coast Guard Director General Rakesh Pal assured that the organisation is ready to tackle threats of drone attacks in Arabian sea and protect India’s maritime interests. “We have got eyes and ears everywhere, we have got aviation assets are flying day and night. When we generally spot hostile ships or vessels, we generally track them down. If the ships are not responding we zero on to them and make sure they are boarded,” said ICG DG Rakesh Pal while talking to ANI on the drone attacks in the Arabian Sea.

Uttarkashi Tunnel Collapse: Ambulances ready at site, official reveals details

The rescue operations at the Uttarkashi tunnel collapse site continued for Day 11 on Nov 22. No stone is being left unturned to evacuate 41 trapped labourers from inside the tunnel’s rubbles. Prepared for any undesired occurrence, 4 ambulances have been stationed at the operation site. 35-36 more ambulances are expected to reach the site soon. Mahmood Ahmed, Additional Secretary Technical, Road and Transport held a press conference and said, “An additional 800 mm pipe has also been pushed 21 metres inside the tunnel. Around 12:45 am, we started drilling through the auger machine and so far, we have pushed three more pipes...As long as we reach 45-50 metres inside the tunnel, we will not be able to give you the exact time. We are also doing horizontal drilling, we have entered around 8 metres from there as well.”

Union government has constituted a ‘One Nation, One Election’ Committee on September 1. The committee has been formed under the chairmanship of former President Ram Nath Kovind. Committee will explore the possibility which envisages holding of general, states polls simultaneously. CEC Rajiv Kumar said that EC is ready to conduct elections as per legal provisions. Earlier, AIMIM Chief Owaisi rejected the possibility of ‘One Election’ Bill and called it “unconstitutional”. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on several occasions pitched the idea of One Nation, One Election.

ISRO's much anticipated mission to the Sun, Aditya-L1 ready for launch

As the date for lift-off nears for India’s first solar mission ‘Aditya-L1’, ISRO shared photos of satellite. The satellite arrived at Sathish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota from U R Rao Satellite Centre in Bengaluru. ‘Aditya-L1’, India’s first solar mission is a space-based Indian observatory to study the Sun. ISRO is set to launch the ‘Aditya-L1’ mission to the sun on August 26 from PSLV-XL rocket. Initially, spacecraft will be placed in a low earth orbit; subsequently, using an on-board propulsion system, spacecraft will be put in Lagrange point L1. Spacecraft will carry 7 payloads to observe the photosphere, chromosphere and the outermost layers of the Sun. The total travel time from launch to L1 would take about four months for ‘Aditya-L1’.

Preparations were underway at Kargil War Memorial in Ladakh on July 25 for the celebrations of Kargil Vijay Diwas. Notably, July 26 is celebrated as Kargil Vijay Diwas every year to observe India’s victory over Pakistan in 1999. This year, India will celebrate 24th Kargil Vijay Diwas. Kargil War was one of the toughest wars fought in the most inhospitable conditions, both due to its geographical and climatic conditions. During the war, the Indian Army recaptured the strategic peaks of Tololing, Tiger Hill, and Point 4875, among others. A wreath-laying ceremony will take place on July 26 giving tribute to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives during Kargil War.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a historic state visit to the United States on June 20. This visit marks a significant departure from previous visits by Indian Prime Ministers, making it a watershed moment in the bilateral relationship between the two countries. The White House is all decked up to host PM Modi on his first official state visit since he assumed office in 2014. The Indian tricolour is flying high outside the white house along with the US flag. The visit will commence in New York where the PM will lead the celebrations of the International Day of Yoga at the UN Headquarters on June 21. The PM will then travel to Washington D.C., where he will be accorded a Ceremonial Guard of Honour at the White House on June 22, and meet President Biden to continue their high-level dialogue.
