Gagan Shakti-24: Emergency Landing Facilities activated by Indian Air Force

As part of the ongoing exercise Gagan Shakti-24, Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft recently operated from the Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) in the northern sector in Kashmir valley. A large number of troops were airlifted and subsequently air landed utilising Chinook, Mi-17 V5 and ALH Mk-III helicopters by night.IAF also plans to practise similar drills in coordination with administration of State Governments for activation of ELFs in other sectors. Various IAF fixed and rotary wing platforms will carry out coordinated landing and operations at these ELFs. Whole-of-the-Nation-Approach (WNA). ELF operations provide an opportunity for IAF aircraft to undertake operations from such restricted landing surfaces while also being able to undertake Humanitarian Assistance in Disaster Relief operations during times of natural calamities to provide relief. The capability to operate by night at these stretches of highways, and the capability to transfer troops from such surfaces will greatly enhance the operational capabilities of Indian Armed Force.

PM Modi witnesses launch Of UPI Services In Mauritius, Sri Lanka

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremesinghe, and Prime Minister of Mauritius Pravind Jugnauth on February 12 witnessed the launch of Unified Payment Interface (UPI) services in Sri Lanka and Mauritius, and also RuPay card services in Mauritius, via video conferencing. The launch will enable the availability of UPI settlement services for Indian nationals travelling to Sri Lanka and Mauritius as well as for Mauritian nationals travelling to India. The extension of RuPay card services in Mauritius will enable Mauritian banks to issue cards based on the RuPay mechanism in Mauritius and facilitate usage of RuPay Card for settlements both in India and Mauritius.

Uttarkashi Tunnel Collapse: Team of 6 people to enter the pipeline for drilling

The vertical drilling to rescue the 41 workers trapped inside Uttarkashi's Silkyara tunnel began on the afternoon of November 26 as the rescue operation entered its 15th day in the Uttarkashi Tunnel Collapse. The development came after a plasma cutter was flown in from Hyderabad. The plasma cutter was bought to cut and remove parts of the auger machine stuck in the rubble. In the latest update, the front part of the American Auger machine which was stuck in the pipeline was completely cut with a plasma cutter on November 27. Efforts are also being made to remove the debris and the front part of the machine. In the process of cutting and removing the American Auger machine, a 2-meter portion of the last part of the pipeline (i.e. 48 to 50 meters) has also been twisted. A team of 6 people who are basically civilian workers and labourers, all of them will enter the pipeline that has been laid inside the tunnel and carry out the work of manual drilling of the remaining part. These people will carry a drilling machine, a hammer, a shovel, a trowel, and oxygen as a life support system. Amid the ongoing rescue operation, a member of the National Disaster Management Authority, Lt General Syed Ata Hasnain (Retd.) held a Press Conference in the national capital on November 26 and said that all the trapped workers are safe and all the basic necessities are being sent to them.

Efforts are in full swing as the rescue operation at the Uttarkashi Tunnel collapse site entered Day 6 on November 17. Rescue teams and agencies have intensified their bid to rescue the 40 trapped workers at the earliest. Heavy auger drilling machines are in action to save the workers. The tunnel between Silkyara and Dandalgaon on the Brahmakhal-Yamunotri national highway collapsed in the early hours of November 12.
