India on May 02 lodged a strong protest against the reports of Chinese activities in Shaksgam Valley situated in POK. Shooting down media reports of ‘construction activities by China in Shaksgam Valley’ MEA said that It is a part of India. MEA further said that New Delhi never accepted the China-Pakistan boundary agreement of 1963. The issue of Shaksgam Valley comes amid the India-China border dispute along the Line of Actual Control. Indian and Chinese soldiers came at a loggerhead at friction points in eastern Ladakh in 2020 at LAC. The Shaksgam Valley, or the Trans Karakoram Tract is a strategically key region is part of the Hunza-Gilgit Region of PoK. It is bordered by the Xinjiang Province of China to the north, the northern areas of PoK to its west, south & Siachen Glacier region to the east. The Shaksgam Valley was ceded to China by Pakistan in 1963 when both countries signed a boundary pact to settle their differences.

In a tragic incident, a boat carrying school children capsized in the Jhelum river in the Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir on April 16. The Jhelum boat accident killed 4 people. The Srinagar Administration has launched a rescue operation in the area. A State Disaster Response Force team was also deployed. At least six persons including four children have died. Meanwhile, 4 bodies have been recovered, while others are missing. The boat which has capsized was ferrying children from Gandbal to Batwara in Srinagar. Rescue and search is operation underway in Ganderbal Nowgam area of Srinagar. 3 people are still missing in the boat capsizing incident that occurred in the Jhelum River yesterday. According to DC Srinagar, Six bodies have been found so far. Officials said that the rescue operation continued till 11 pm last night but was halted due to darkness and heavy water flow in the river Jhelum. On the murder of a four-year-old boy allegedly by his mother in Goa, cab driver Rayjohn D'Souza says, "She (accused Suchana Seth) remained quiet during the entire journey... I received call from the Goa Police and the police informed me that bloodstains were found in Suchana's room and suspected the missing child. Goa police asked me to take her to the nearest police station. Upon reaching the police station, the police searched the vehicle, discovering the child's body inside the bag. Panic buying of fuel in Mumbai and other cities across India is being witnessed amid fear of supply shortage. A few petrol pumps in Mumbai are even running dry as a result. This is a consequence of truck and bus drivers protest against the new hit and run law that punishes negligent driving. This new law provides up to 10 years of punishment for fleeing an accident spot without reporting the incident. But the truck drivers say this law is one-sided and harsh on them. The strike going forward is likely to impact the supplies of essential fruits and vegetables and hit the common man.

Soon after the video of Shajapur Collector snapping at protesting truck drivers and asking “Tumahari aukat kya hai” went viral on social media, the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister swung into action and suspended Collector Kishor Kanyal. The truck drivers were protesting a new Hit-and-run law that provides up to 10 years of punishment for fleeing an accident spot without reporting the incident. While the strike has been called off today after the government assured that it would consult stakeholders before implementing a contentious law against hit-and-run, a video of Shajapur Collector misbehaving with truck driver is still doing the rounds. Bus and truck drivers on Jan 01, held protests across several states of India against the new hit-and-run law. This triggered difficulty for commuters travelling to different places. Private bus and truck drivers on January 01, enforced a 'chakka jam' across Haryana. Members of an organisation representing the drivers also staged a protest on the streets of Bhopal at the Board Office intersection. A similar protest also broke out in Chhattisgarh’s Raipur, where bus drivers staged a demonstration against the new central law. With the buses anchored in their sheds, regular commuters and interstate passengers bore the brunt of the protests. The ongoing strike has impacted the movement of thousands of vehicles across the protesting states. Notably, the new central law attracts a 7-10-year prison sentence for drivers falling foul of it.
