Mamata Banerjee has landed at the centre of a fresh political and legal controversy after an FIR was registered against her over an alleged “Ganda Dharma” remark made during a public address. The complaint, filed in Siliguri by lawyer and Hindu activist Rinki Chatterjee Singh, alleges that Banerjee’s statement hurt religious sentiments and had the potential to disturb communal harmony across the state. According to the complaint, the remarks were provocative in nature and deeply offensive to Sanatani Hindus in India and abroad. The FIR reportedly includes sections related to outraging religious feelings, defamation and criminal intimidation. Police have confirmed that a case has been registered and the matter is now under investigation. WATCH
