Congress leader Supriya Shrinate's post Kangana sparks controversy

Congress leader Supriya Shrinate’s ‘controversial’ post - which she later said she had not made - on BJP’s Kangana Ranaut triggered a row on March 25. The post used Kangana’s image with an objectionable caption which was later deleted. Soon Kangana Ranaut hit back at the Congress leader, saying that she has played various roles in movies and every woman deserves dignity. Supriya Shrinate claimed that the post, which has since been taken down, was made by someone who had access to her FB & Insta accounts. She also said, anyone who knows her will know that she would never say that for a woman and blamed a parody account for misusing her name. The post was made a day after the BJP fielded Kangana Ranaut from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi. Meanwhile, BJP leaders slammed Supriya Shrinate over the post and demanded that she should be immediately sacked.

With ‘Boycott Maldives’ trending, a user shared a post featuring Bollywood actor Paresh Rawal’s famous meme template. Notably, Maldives may be one of the top tourist spots, but PM Modi’s vision for Lakshadweep has propelled UT's tourism prospects. PM Modi’s focus is to uplift the lives of the people of Lakshadweep through various development projects. The Central Government plans to make Lakshadweep a major tourist hub like Maldives. PM Modi Govt has infused more than Rs 1,150 crore to enhance Lakshadweep’s infrastructure.

Political row sparks between NCP-BJP after Sharad Pawar's statement on Israel

Hitting out at Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) supremo Sharad Pawar for his remark on the Israel-Palestine conflict, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday said that Pawar would send his daughter Supriya Sule to Gaza. Sarma's remarks came days after Sharad Pawar said that former Prime Ministers of India also “stood firmly with Palestine”. Terming Prime Minister Narendra Modi's support for Israel as "unfortunate", the NCP chief said that he neglected the real issue. Pawar said "The entire land is of Palestine and Israel encroached on their land. That place, land and houses, everything was of Palestine and later Israel took over it. Israel is an outsider and the land is originally of Palestine." Pawar's remarks were condemned by the BJP. Earlier today, Union Minister Piyush Goyal said it is "very disturbing" when a senior leader like Sharad Pawar makes such "preposterous statements" NCP Leader Supriya Sule also responded to Himanta Biswa Sarma's statement.

Harish Salve, former Solicitor General of India, married his British partner Trina in London on Sunday. The wedding was attended by high-profile guests including Nita Ambani, steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal and model Ujjwala Raut. However, it was former IPL chairman Lalit Modi’s presence that has stirred a political controversy, drawing flak from opposition parties. Lalit Modi, who lives in London, left India in 2010 amid investigations into alleged tax evasion and money-laundering. The Opposition questioned the "presence of a fugitive" at the wedding of Salve, one of the country's seniormost lawyers, who was also recently appointed to a high-level committee headed by former President Ram Nath Kovind to explore the possibility of 'One Nation, One Election’. Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi slammed the Centre over Lalit Modi's presence at the wedding. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) also reacted to Lalit Modi’s presence at the wedding and called it a “black mark on PM Modi’s reputation”. After Indian Premier League (IPL) 2010, Lalit Modi was suspended from the BCCI after being accused of financial irregularities and misconduct. He has been in London since 2010 when he left India amid investigations into tax evasion and money-laundering cases.

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s comment on Barack Obama’s statement on minority rights in India stirred a controversy. In a tweet, he said there are many "Hussain Obamas" in the country and the state police will act according to its priorities. The Opposition was quick to hit back at the Assam chief minister. Khalistan Tiger Force chief Hardeep Singh Nijjar was gunned down outside a Gurdwara in Canada's Surrey on June 18. Hailing from Jalandhar in Punjab, Nijjar was wanted in India by the National Investigation Agency. As per Vancouver Sun, IHIT will work closely with Canada’s spy agency on this case of “targeted murder”. Notably, Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is Canada’s largest homicide unit responsible for suspicious deaths. Nijjar’s lawyer Gurpatwant Singh Pannun told Postmedia that Nijjar was warned about threats on his life earlier.
