Jharkhand has erupted into a statewide political confrontation after police action during a student march towards the state Assembly in Ranchi triggered a BJP-called bandh. The JPSC-JSSC recruitment exam row intensified after thousands of job aspirants marched towards the Assembly on August 10. Police used lathicharge, tear gas and water cannons after protesters breached multiple barricades. The BJP called the August 11 statewide bandh to protest what it described as police atrocities against students. Road blockades, tyre burning and disruptions were reported across Ranchi, while police were deployed at key locations. 

Jharkhand's prolonged student agitation has taken a dramatic turn, with two rival protest factions allegedly exchanging gunfire at the Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium as tensions escalate on the 16th day of the movement. The latest confrontation has intensified the growing rift between the JPSC-JSSC Reforms Manch and protesters associated with Jairam Mahato's camp, raising fresh questions over the increasingly divided nature of the student movement. The alleged gunfire incident comes at a critical moment, with the Jharkhand government preparing for another round of discussions aimed at resolving the prolonged protest. The Reforms Manch has accused the government of attempting to deepen divisions by holding separate discussions with different student groups. WATCH
