UNLF Peace Deal: Manipur’s UNLF renounces violence in historic deal

The United National Liberation Front has signed a peace agreement with the Government of India and Manipur Govt. The United National Liberation Front, or UNLF is a separatist insurgent group active in Manipur. The armed group has agreed to renounce violence and join mainstream, marking the end of a six-decade-long armed movement. The agreement was signed in New Delhi in the presence of Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, some members of UNLF. The return of UNLF to the mainstream will encourage other valley-based armed groups to participate in the peace process in due course. Home Minister Amit Shah hailed the UNLF peace deal.

Punjab govt had sought several companies of Paramilitary forces to maintain law and order in the state. Amritpal Singh has been in the eye of the storm ever since the Ajnala incident sent shockwaves across Punjab.
