The company claims to expand Jio's network to over 200 million users. The company claims that it has around 10 million JioFiber customers and the network is spread across 1.5 million kms. India's rank slips in World Press Freedom Index, now 161 out of 180 countries

From the 150th spot in 2022, India’s rank has further dipped to 161 in the 2023 edition of the Press Freedom Index published by Reporters Without Borders. This is several spots behind Pakistan and Afghanistan, which have improved their rankings this year at positions 150 and 152, respectively. Countries ranked lower than India include Bangladesh (163), Turkey (165), Saudi Arabia (170), and Iran (177). The index was published today, May 3, which is also World Press Freedom Day. The ranking is based on a country’s performance in five broad categories: political context, legal framework, economic context, sociocultural context, and safety of journalists. Of the five, India’s ranking was lowest in the safety of journalists category (172) and best in the social indicator category (143).

DRG jawans, who were killed by high-intensity IED blast, left behind their loved ones in pain and agony. On Apr 27, last respects were paid and the mortal remains of soldiers were taken to their native villages for the last rites. The funeral ceremony of jawan Lakhmu Markam was filled with sorrow and pride. Markam's aggrieving wife even tried to offer herself on the funeral pyre of her husband instead of the braveheart. Hundreds of villagers gathered at his residence to pay their last respects. People raised slogans like "Shaheed Jawan Amar Rahe" during his antim yatra.  His supreme sacrifice has made his entire village proud who were bidding him farewell with teary eyes. Villager Chetram Atami condoled the incident however he shared that the whole village is proud of him for sacrificing his life for the country.

ICICI Bank fraud case: CBI arrests Videocon Group chairman Venugopal Dhoot

CBI on Dec 26 arrested Chairman of the Videocon Group Venugopal Dhoot, in connection with ICICI bank fraud case. Earlier, CBI arrested former ICICI Bank CEO Chanda Kochhar and her husband on Dec 23 in connection the case. The Kochhars are currently being interrogated by the investigation agency after being presented in a Mumbai court on Dec 24. Chanda Kochhar is accused of favouring Venugopal Dhoot when she was heading the bank. The CBI alleged that ICICI Bank sanctioned a loan of Rs 3,250 crore to Videocon Group in violation of RBI’s Banking Regulation Act. In October 2018, Chanda Kochhar, stepped down as the CEO and MD of the bank following the allegations. In September 2020, the ED arrested Mr Kochhar as one of the main accused in the ICICI-Videocon loan case.
