A heated debate was witnessed in the Lower House of the Parliament during the Budget Session. During the question hour in the Lok Sabha, Congress leader Adhir Chowdhury asked Sitharaman the reason behind the "indiscriminate and arbitrary attitude" of the Centre towards Karnataka. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 05 dismissed Congess’ Adhir Chowdhury’s claims of ‘partiality’ with the non-BJP ruled states. Ms Sitharaman responding to the same explained that "devolution to states... happens as per Finance Commission recommendation", and that she had no "discretion" in allocation of tax revenues. This discussion was happening around the Interim Budget presented by the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 1st.

The leaders shared the screenshot of the warning received on their Apple devices. BJP denied the allegations leveled by Opposition over Apple’s “state-sponsored attack” warning and party MP Ravi Shankar Prasad called the accusations “baseless”.

A sudden cloud burst over Lhonak Lake in North Sikkim has led to a flash flood in Teesta River in Sikkim’s Lachen. Some army establishments along the valley have been affected and efforts are on to confirm details. 23 personnel have been reportedly missing after a cloudburst triggered a flash flood in the state. Some vehicles are reportedly submerged under the slush. Search and rescue operations are still underway. A similar flood-like situation is being witnessed in Singtam. CM Prem Singh Tamang rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation in the affected areas.

A ‘red’ alert has been issued for several districts in Himachal Pradesh for the next 24-48 hours with a warning of extremely heavy rains in the state. Heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh have caused landslides and the Beas river to swell up. Landslides were reported in Kullu district. Water level significantly increased in Beas river in Mandi. “Stay safe, be prepared for flooding and landslides," IMD warned locals and travellers. A portion of National Highway 3 was also washed away by the overflowing Beas River in Kullu. With heavy rains causing a rise in the water levels of rivers, locals in Mandi raised concern. IMD has also warned of flash floods and avalanches in the Lahul and Spiti districts of Himachal.

Panic created among the people of Hyderabad’s Cherlapally area when a large number of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders blasted at the Hindustan Petroleum Company Limited (HPCL) godown on Thursday night. After chain of explosions, major fire broke out and engulfed hundreds of cooking gas cylinders. The deafening sound of the blasts was heard miles away.
