Lok Sabha MP Asaduddin Owaisi on December 20 raised concern over new Criminal Laws. Owaisi questioned Centre over the men’s rights in the newly-introduced laws. A new record was set up in the new Parliament building in this winter session as three key Bills - Bharatiya Nyaya (Second) Sanhita, 2023; the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha (Second) Sanhita, 2023; and the Bharatiya Sakshya (Second) Bill, 2023 - were passed which will completely overhaul the country’s criminal laws.

In a Poll-bound Madhya Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 27 pushed for Uniform Civil Code. Soon after PM Modi’s remark in a poll-bound state, a political slugfest erupted ahead of the elections. PM’s remark has triggered a nationwide debate with the Opposition accusing the Centre of using UCC for political gain. Speaking to ANI on ‘Triple Talaq’ and ‘UCC’, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said as far as Triple Talaq is concerned, it's already illegal in the Supreme Court ruling. Furthermore, he added that Congress is not saying Triple Talaq is good, it is bad but how can you criminalise the abandonment of a wife by a husband in one faith when it is not a criminal offense in another faith?
