A torrential storm struck the UAE, unleashing heavy rains that wreaked havoc in Dubai and triggered floods across the region. UAE witnessed the heaviest rainfall since 1949. It claimed one life and inflicted widespread damage, with homes submerged, roads blocked, and vehicles stranded in the floodwaters. Flights were delayed and diverted, leaving passengers stranded amidst the chaos. Authorities issued urgent advisories, urging residents to stay indoors for safety as the storm disrupted normal life across the UAE.

INS Chennai, which rescued the hijacked Bulk Carrier MV Lila Norfolk on January 5, reached Chennai on Feb 16. On Jan 05, the Indian naval warship reached the hijacked vessel MV Lila Norfolk off Somalia coast. As many as 21 crew members, including 15 Indians were onboard the ship which was hijacked by the pirates. The Indian Navy was quick to respond and rescued all the crew members. Navy’s elite commando unit MARCOS reached the vessel and initiated the “sanitisation” process. The rescued members hailed the Indian Navy’s efforts and a timely response.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate first traditional Hindu Mandir in UAE and the largest in the West Asia on February 14. Made with 1,800,000 bricks and 689,512 man-hours, 40,000 cubic feet of marble, 180,000 cubic feet of sandstone have been used in the temple. The cost of 108-foot-tall is estimated to be approximately million 440 Dirham. Foundation stone for the temple was laid by PM Modi in 2017. Built on 27 acres of land, the colossal structure can accommodate up to 10,000 people. The temple draws its inspiration from ‘lotus in the desert’. The temple boasts seven spires, each representing an emirate in UAE.

PM Modi further asked standing ovation for the personal contribution of UAE President to the construction of temple. At the inauguration of BAPS Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi, PM Modi said, “UAE has written a golden chapter. The inauguration of the temple has years of hard work and dreams of many are connected with the temple. Swaminarayan's blessings are also connected…I request all of you to give a standing ovation to the President of UAE.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a rousing welcome from the Indian community and the people of Qatar in Doha. ‘Modi, Modi’ chants were echoed by the Indian community. Notably, PM Modi is on a two-day visit to Qatar. Upon his arrival in Qatar, PM Modi held bilateral talks with Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani in Doha. PM Modi Qatar visit will also see him meeting the Emir of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and conduct meetings on bilateral as well as regional and global issues on February 15. This visit assumes significance as it comes days after a diplomatic victory for India following the release of eight ex-Indian Navy personnel who were detained in Qatar for nearly 18 months since August 2022.

PM also offered prayers at the temple and offered performed aarti. The temple was inaugurated on the auspicious occasion of Basant Panchmi. The BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir of Abu Dhabi has been built by BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha. Notably, much before this PM Modi UAE visit, PM Modi had launched the project for the construction of the Temple in 2015. In 2018, the PM unveiled a model of the traditional stone temple as well. The Temple is a reflection of the graciousness of Govt of UAE, which has gifted 17 acres of land to it.

As Abu Dhabi’s first hindu temple, Bochanwasi Akshar Purushottam Sanstha (BAPS) mandir is set to be inaugurated on 14th February, catch the mesmerising inside visuals of the UAE’s first Hindu temple, BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir.
