A political and legal firestorm has erupted in Washington as Senator Mark Kelly files a lawsuit against Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, alleging retaliation by the Pentagon following a video message that criticized the Trump administration and reaffirmed service members’ right to refuse unlawful military orders. The lawsuit claims that Kelly was threatened with formal censure and a downgrade of his retirement rank, a move that could result in reduced pay and benefits, after the video triggered backlash from both the White House and senior Pentagon leadership.
