The Indian Air Force has inducted the Rampage long-range supersonic air-to-ground missiles which can hit targets at around 250 Km. The missile known as the High-Speed Low Drag-Mark 2 missile in the Indian Air Force was reportedly used in a big way by the Israeli Air Force during its recent attacks on Iranian targets. The Indian Navy has also inducted the missile in its fleet for the MiG-29K naval fighter jets, they said. The stand-off weapon will give Indian fighter pilots the option of engaging and taking out targets like communication centres or radar stations, the sources said. The procurement was part of the emergency powers given by the Defence Ministry to the armed forces to equip themselves with critical weapons and equipment after the standoff with China started in 2020. The missiles have a longer range than the Spice-2000s used in the Balakot air strikes in 2019.

AR Rahman was recently awarded the prestigious Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award at a ceremony in Mumbai. During his acceptance speech, AR Rahman shared that his father had deep respect for the Mangeshkar family. He said, “My father, when he was working in the film industry down south, used to get up facing Lata Mangeshkar ji’s photograph. So, when I became a composer from the south and the enormous love I got from you guys, changed my life. One thing I tell my family – my kids – is that look at the Mangeshkar family. A storm hit the United Arab Emirates and Oman this week bringing record rainfall that flooded highways, inundated houses, grid-locked traffic and trapped people in their homes. At least 20 people were reported to have died in the deluge in Oman while another person was said to have died in floods in the UAE that closed government offices and schools for days. The storm had initially hit Oman on April 14 before it pounded the UAE on April 16, knocking out power and causing huge disruptions to flights as runways were turned into rivers. In the UAE, a record 254 millimetres (10 inches) of rainfall was recorded in Al Ain, a city bordering Oman. It was the largest ever in 24 hours since records started in 1949.

Amid the political storm in West Bengal that has erupted over the Sandeshkhali horror case, a major breakthrough has been achieved as the accused Shibu Hazra was arrested on Feb 17 from Basirhat. According to police, as many as 18 people have been arrested in the case so far. Notably, agitated villagers set fire to a poultry farm belonging to TMC leader Shivprasad Hazra. Residents claimed that Hazra took over their land against their will, leading to their agitation. Political storm broke out following the incident provoking to and fro allegations from state and national parties. The poor local women have narrated tales of horror of women being raped for years by leaders of Mamata Banerjee’s party Trinamool Congress and their henchmen in TMC’s party office.

Para-athlete Suvarna Raj, who has represented the country in global events, on February 3 accused the IndiGo airline crew of 'mistreatment', saying she requested the carrier to provide her a personal wheelchair at the aircraft door but the staff did not respond. On the IndiGo’s mistreatment, Suvarna alleged that she was mistreated by IndiGo crew members while taking a flight from New Delhi to Chennai. Suvarna had booked seat number 39D(Aisle) on the Chennai-bound flight on Friday. A day after Iran launched airstrike in Pakistan’s Balochistan, Pakistan military conducts retaliatory strikes against Iran. As per Pakistan Foreign Ministry, the armed forces conducted ‘Operation Marg Bar Sarmachar’ in Iranian territory. “This morning Pakistan undertook a series of highly coordinated and specifically targeted precision military strikes against terrorist hideouts in Siestan-o-Baluchistan province of Iran. A number of terrorists were killed during Intelligence-based operation- codenamed Marg Bar Sarmachar,” said Foreign Ministry of Pakistan. Iran recently targeted a terror outfit Jaish al-Adl’s headquarters and launched airstrikes in Pakistan’s Balochistan. Pakistan claimed that two children lost their lives, two sustained serious injuries in the airstrikes by Iran. Pakistan also strongly condemned the attacks and termed it as an “unprovoked violation” of its airspace. However, India has taken a pro-Iranian stance in the Pakistan-Iran Attack and emphasised ‘actions countries take for self-defense’.

Tensions simmer in Red Sea as Yemen-backed Houthis continue to attack commercial ships, affecting international trade. On January 10, Houthi rebels launched 18 drones over southern Red Sea, according to the US military’s Central Command, reported Al Jazeera. The Houthi rebels, who are an Iran-aligned group, started the strikes in retaliation for Israel’s Gaza conflict. Meanwhile, EAM Dr S Jaishankar on Jan 13 highlighted the ongoing challenges in Red Sea region. The External Affairs Minister raised concern over continuous missiles firing, causing damage to ships by Houthi rebels. Also, US carried out fresh strikes against Houthi targets in Yemen amid escalating tensions in Red Sea, CNN reported. These strikes followed a coordinated attack on approximately 30 Houthi locations the day before. Earlier, US Secy Antony Blinken held a telephonic conversation with EAM Jaishankar on January 11. Both leaders discussed recent attacks on merchant ships by Houthis in the Red Sea, informed State Dept spox Matthew Miller.

Vikrant Massey is known for taking on performance-based, serious roles in Lootera, Mirzapur, Chhapaak, and his recent release, 12th Fail. Not many know that he is also an accomplished dancer.
