Kerala is battling a rapidly worsening flood disaster as relentless monsoon rains continue to lash the state, claiming 15 lives and forcing more than 7,600 people to take shelter in relief camps. Torrential rainfall has inundated towns, triggered landslides and damaged homes, leaving thousands displaced as authorities race to prevent the humanitarian crisis from escalating further. According to officials, 273 relief camps have been set up across Kerala, providing food, drinking water, medical assistance and emergency shelter to affected families. The government has also stepped up health surveillance and epidemic prevention measures to minimise the risk of disease outbreaks in flood-hit regions. Malappuram has reported the highest number of fatalities so far, while search and rescue operations continue for those still missing. Pathanamthitta has emerged as one of the worst-affected districts in terms of relief operations, with the largest number of camps established to accommodate displaced residents. WATCH

Rajya Sabha erupted in chaos during the debate on the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, after Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge referred to the Manusmriti while criticizing the government's education policies. Leader of the House JP Nadda strongly objected, demanding that Kharge authenticate his remarks and warning that such statements could disrupt social harmony. BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi also countered Kharge's arguments with historical references and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar's writings.
