Mumbai has been battered by heavy overnight rainfall as the southwest monsoon arrived in the city nearly 13 days later than its usual onset date, triggering a fresh wave of waterlogging, traffic challenges and weather alerts across the region. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai, warning of intense rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds. In addition to urban flooding concerns, the heavy downpour has triggered incidents such as a landslide at Malshej Ghat between Wash Point and Umbrella Point. Authorities have also reported tree falls and structural damage in certain residential pockets, including a wall collapse in Vikhroli West. Emergency services have been deployed to multiple locations as civic teams work to clear debris, restore traffic flow and ensure public safety. In one incident, a car was reportedly crushed under a fallen tree during the intense rainfall. WATCH
