Residents of the Antroli, Niyol and Mohni villages in Surat turned billionaires overnight, after the Central government paid them crores of rupees in exchange for the tracts of their land that were taken over for the ambitious Mumbai – Surat bullet train project. They are now buying more land, investing in Fixed Deposits, taking foreign tours and planning to send their children or grandchildren abroad with their newfound riches.

Maharashtra Assembly Passes Resolution To Bring Marathi Speaking Villages Back

As per a resolution passed in Maharashtra's state assembly on Tuesday, Karnataka's government is being accused of oppressing and unfairly treating the Marathi population in border states. This comes just days after the Karnataka assembly passed a resolution reiterating its determination not to cede any land from its borders and condemning Maharashtra's attempts to stir passion on an issue which is now a "completed chapter”.The resolution said: “Maharashtra condemns Karnataka government’s anti-Marathi stance and how the Marathi population living in border areas have been receiving secondary treatment for years, they have been oppressed and treated unfairly.” It aimed at bringing back 865 Marathi-speaking villages in Karnataka, to Maharashtra.
