Legendary Australian skipper Ian Chappell pointed out in his column for this newspaper that Dhoni might well be past his due date as skipper as the Men in Blue battled in the ODI series against the Aussies recently. The Indian team picked themselves up for the T20 series, much to the relief of Dhoni.
If rumour mills are to be believed, next month's ICC World T20 could be Dhoni's final hurrah. That only time will tell, but Lalchand Rajput, who helped steer a young brigade under Dhoni's leadership to win the inaugural World T20 in 2007, has no doubt that Dhoni's astute captaincy can help India win back the world title again.
'India favourites' "We are definitely favourites. The team has gelled well, looks very settled and let's not forget, Dhoni is a master of home conditions. Playing at home is a huge advantage and there is no other man than Dhoni when it comes to thriving at home," said Rajput, who supported the inclusion of Mumbai's Ajinkya Rahane. "Ajinkya is a class act. He can open the innings if the openers fail. He can also bat anywhere in the middle order," said Rajput.
