Australian vice-captain Michael Clarke hit an unbeaten century as Australia reached 4-316 on the first day of the opening Test against New Zealand at Wellington.

Showing no effects of his recent break up with model Lara Blinge, Clarke (100*) played a matured innings along with Marchus North (52*) to put up a 140-run partnership for the fifth wicket.
