Former Australia captain Greg Chappell has stressed that the open letter seeking fair treatment for jailed former Pakistan skipper Imran Khan is rooted in human rights concerns, not politics. Chappell, one of 14 former international captains who signed the appeal, said the group deliberately avoided involving current or former Pakistani players

Former Australia skipper Greg Chappell clarified that the group of captains, who wrote an open letter to draw the attention of the Pakistan government towards the plight of a jailed Imran Khan, did not approach any Pakistani players to seek help for their “friend” as they wanted to keep politics out of it.
“We did not approach any Pakistanis. I/we have approached this as a human rights issue, not a political issue. It is hard to avoid politics in a politically charged atmosphere, but I think it weakens our voice if we get into the weeds of politics. This is sticking up for a friend and human being,” Chappell, 77, told mid-day.
