Pakistan's embattled chief selector Mohsin Khan today dismissed accusations that he is a "rubber stamp" worker, who follows orders given by the cricket Board Chairman Ijaz Butt. The former Test opener also defended the decision to not pick former captain Younis Khan in the national team until the Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman gave clearance for the same today. "I am no rubber stamp chief selector. But there are certain rules and laws of the Board that I have to follow as I am their employee. The day I feel I can't follow these rules and laws, I will leave this post," Mohsin said. The chief selector announced at a press conference here that Chairman Butt had called him up and given him clearance to consider Younis for selection. "The Chairman told me that Younis was not clear of any disciplinary charges and the selectors can consider him but it is entirely the selectors decision to decide on merit," Mohsin said. He said Younis was recalled immediately for the series against South Africa as he was a proven performer and a fitness fanatic. "He is an experienced player and was keen to make a comeback to international cricket, so we had no issues recalling him." Mohsin said the selectors had wanted Younis in the team for the earlier tours to Sri Lanka and England but could not pick him as he was not cleared by the Board. "Unless the Board gives us clearance for a player we can't consider him. That is the rule of the Board and we have to follow it," he said. He also dismissed suggestions that Butt interfered into the selectors affairs. u00a0"Until now whatever team we have picked he has given his approval." Mohsin, who came under fire recently for not consulting the captain and coach in picking the squads for the series against South Africa, said in the job description given to him he was not bound to consult them. "But I have had no issues consulting the captain and coach in the past. Because I believe their input is valuable although there is no binding on me to do this. For the South Africa series the Board told us to pick the squad and we did it," he said. "When we picked the squads the Board had not named a captain and the coach was out of the country so we couldn't consult them," he added. Mohsin said that Younis would be available for both the one-day and Test series against South Africa. He also said that he was not bothered by criticism that was unfair on him or the selectors. "You can never make everyone happy as a chief selector but you can just try to do your best which I do." Peppered with some hard questions on the selections of Imran Farhat and Misbah-ul-Haq, Mohsin then ended the press conference abruptly inviting the media for tea.
