The pitches were true, they played at good venues, stayed at good hotels, no one got the stomach bug as such and the DRS took care of the rest. The moaning had to come though and it did, at the end of the second T20 International that India won to level the three-match series 1-1.
Yes, umpire C Shamsuddin failed to spot the inside edge but it wasn't the first time an umpire had got it wrong and it won't be the last time either. For England skipper Eoin Morgan, it was a cardinal sin though and he vowed then to take it to the match referee. Young Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah, the bowler who was fortunate to get the decision in his favour and who then followed up by rattling Butler's stumps in that famous final over, had the perfect riposte to the England captain. Asked on Tuesday about Morgan's comments, Bumrah brushed the matter aside saying: "We don't really focus much on the decisions given on the field by the umpires. Sometimes, it (the decision) goes in our favour and sometimes it goes in their favour &mdash; that happens in cricket. So you got to move on and forget these things."
The batsman in question, Root, was in full agreement with Bumrah. He refused to single out Shamsuddin, who incidentally is to officiate in today's game, saying such things are part of the game. He praised Bumrah's terrific over even as he admitted that his side could have done better with the chase.
"I have no problem with him (Shamsuddin) umpiring any of our future games. As a player you're going to make mistakes and as an umpire you're going to do exactly the same. I don't think it would be right to single him out as a person at fault for that game. There were things in the game that we could have done better. We could have chased tighter and closer so we didn't have so much to do at the back end," said Root.
