Team India's Test captain Shubman Gill recollected the memories of watching women's ODI skipper, Harmanpreet Kaur, smashing all the bowlers when she visited the academy, when he was just a 10 or 11 years old.
Gill also recalled Kaur's batting display a rare sight for him to watch.
"When I was about 10 or 11 years old, she used to come to the academy where I practised outside and used to play matches with us. I clearly remember her smashing our bowlers all over the park. As a kid, that was a rare sight for me," he said on JioHotstar.
Further, the right-hander stated that seeing Harmanpreet leading the national team with immense pride and joy at the international level is exciting.
"She batted very aggressively, which was quite different from that time. When anyone rises through the ranks, especially from our region in Punjab, and goes on to captain the country, it is a huge and very proud moment. To see Harmanpreet doing that with such immense pride and joy is truly exciting," added the 26-year-old cricketer.
Harmanpreet Kaur is all set to lead the Indian team in the upcoming ODI Women's World Cup 2025. The tournament's opening match is scheduled to be played between the Team India and the Sri Lankan team on September 30 at the Barsapara Stadium in Assam.
Ahead of the tournament, Smriti Mandhana, who is enjoying her rich vein of form, along with Jemimah Rodrigues, will be the top players to watch out for from the hosting nation.
India will be hoping to go one step further in this year's tournament as compared to 2017, when they made it to their second Women's Cricket World Cup final, missing out narrowly to England in a thrilling finish at Lord's Cricket Ground.
