Centurion Jaffer hopes Rizvi build on Day One's 320 for six against Shardashram

Armaan Jaffer struck the first ton of this season's Harris Shield as defending champions Rizvi Springfield, Bandra made a spectacular start to their title defence against Shardashram Vidyamandir English, Dadar at Cross Maidan yesterday. At stumps, Rizvi were 320 for the loss of six wickets with Armaan unbeaten onu00a0 100.

Rizvi coach Raju Pathak, who has been fairly vocal about his side's preparations leading up to the tournament, insisted he wasn't surprised by the performance of his players on the opening day. The lads backed his conviction with the prolific trio of Prithvi Shaw (78), Sarfaraz Khan (84) and Armaan making huge contributions to the tally.



"It didn't come to me or to anyone else as a surprise when these players scored big runs. We are reaping the rewards of allowing players to start early in Giles Shield. Before coming to Harris Shield, all these boys have performed well at the under-14 level and have been consistent," said Pathak.

Batting at three, Armaan was his usual selfu00a0-- calm and composed yet cautious.u00a0Losing wicketkeeper batsman Mohammad Dhaga early in the match, would have played on his mind, as he watchfully defended the ball under his eyes. Off 213 balls faced, only eight managed to find the ropes in his score of 100.

He later said he didn't want to gift his wicket away to the opposition on a flat batting deck and wanted to help his side post a huge score.

"That's how I play. We didn't want to let this opportunity of scoring big go by. We are on 320, I hope we can add many more to this score," said Armaan.
