India defeated New Zealand by 96 runs to become the first team ever to win back-to-back World T20 titles. Suryakumar Yadav-led outfit broke more records, as they became the first team to win the T20 World Cup at home.

Having lost the toss, India were put into bat by New Zealand. The Indian openers put on a show and dominated from the first over, scoring a mammoth 92 in the powerplay. Abhishek Sharma scored his first fifty of the campaign before he was dismissed for 52 runs of 21 balls.

Sharma's opening partner, Sanju Samson, continued his recent dream form as he scored 89 runs in just 46 deliveries, including 5 fours and 8 sixes. This was Samson's third consecutive half-century as he moved past Virat Kohli as the highest run scorer in a T20 World Cup campaign for India.

Ishan Kishan contributed with 54 runs as India looked set to put on a big total in front of over one lakh people at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Jimmy Nesham starred with the ball for New Zealand as he took 3 wickets in an over to bring the Kiwis back in the game. However, a quick-fire finish to the innings by Shivam Dube propelled India to a record 255 for the loss of 5 wickets at the end of 20 overs. The Mumbai batter scored 24 runs in the final over and ended up with 26 runs in just 8 balls.

New Zealand lost early wickets chasing 256 runs in the final

Chasing a record 256 runs for their maiden T20 title, New Zealand lost early wickets in the powerplay. Semi-final hero Finn Allen was dropped early on by Shivam Dube; however failed to capitalise as he soon departed for just 9 runs of 7 balls. Allen's opening partner, Tim Seifert, scored a blistering 50 off just 26 balls before being caught by Ishan Kishan off Varun Chakravarthy's bowling.

The Kiwi middle order failed to fire as 4 of the top 5 batters registered single-digit scores. New Zealand skipper Mitchell Santner put up a fight as he scored 43 runs off 35 balls.

For India, Jasprit Bumrah was again the star of the show, taking 4 wickets for 15 runs in the four overs. Meanwhile, Axar Patel took 3 wickets as well, helping India to a record-breaking win.

With this win, the Indian team became the first team ever to successfully defend their T20 crown. The 'Men in Blue' dominated throughout the tournament, winning the final convincingly against a strong Kiwi side.
