After the conclusion of the second T20I match against Australia, West Indies' burly all-rounder Andre Russell drew curtains on his international career.

During the T20I match at the Sabina Park in Kingston, he played a knock of 36 runs off just 15 deliveries. His fiery knock included two boundaries and four maximums with a strike rate of 240. He also bowled one over during the match and conceded 16 runs, without claiming any wickets.

As he stepped away from international cricket, he enjoys the top spot on the list of players to have the highest strike rate in One-Day Internationals (130.22).

He is also at the top of the list of players to score the most runs while coming to bat number nine. During the ODI match against Team India in 2011, Russell faced just 64 balls, and played an unbeaten knock of 92 runs. His knock also included eight boundaries and five maximums.

The 37-year-old cricketer is also placed in the sharing second spot with Papua New Guinea's Norman Vanua on the list of players to score the most in a T20I innings while batting at number seven. In a T20I match against Australia in 2024, the Caribbean smashed 71 runs, which came in just 29 balls, including four boundaries and seven maximums.

Before the start of the match, West Indies and Australian players on Wednesday also gave a guard of honour to Andre Russell as he concluded his international career.

After the match, Russell said, "I didn't want to finish on a losing note. I enjoy seeing the ball go over the ropes".

Further, the veteran also thanked the home crowd for extending their support as he draws curtains on his international career.

"As a kid, you dream about playing here. Thanks to all the fans who came out to support me," he signed off.

Russell, who was given a guard of honour before the match by both teams, played just one Test match. It was as a Twenty20 specialist that he made his name, winning the T20 World Cup twice with the West Indies in 2012 and 2016. A more than lively seam bowler, Russell's free-scoring late-order batting and athletic fielding saw him sought after by T20 leagues around the world.
