Speaking about the Foundation, Gavaskar said, "I started CHAMPS Foundation along with Gundappa Viswanath in 1999. Back then, I was reading about Indian internationals, who were struggling to make ends meet. Some were digging mine, some were selling vegetables, there's nothing wrong in doing that. But I thought with the kind of effort they'd given to Indian sport, they deserved a little bit better. That's why the CHAMPS Foundation was started" (Pic: Sujay Shivalkar)
